Ok im looking to get a tv card to watch freeview and im hoping one of you guys can recommend one.

I have used a hauppauge wintv nova usb but ive had it for a long time now and seems dated in look and software etc.

Id like a remote and not sure if all of these cards support hdtv if not i would like one with it. Anyway i hope some1 can help me price isnt really an issue

i use the nova-t (pci) which comes with a remote, but i use it in my MCE rig, never had any real problems with it, though there are quicker ones about now. Try changing the software rather than the hardware?

do u have a spair rig that you could set up as a MCE? or how do u use the tv card? PIP?

There are a few things about though im not hot on what software there is just now.

marc mercer what did you think of the Compro VideoMate DVB-T200 card?

is the viewing and recording on them any good?

Terratec 2400i I just swapped my 2 Compro T200s for one. Great value and is performing faultlessly with mce.

I am glad it is for you - I have no reception / signal detected within MCE itself and with bundled app (CyberLink PowerCinema reception of 30 channels all of which are unwatchable)

This is with exactly the same roof aerial and cable that recieves perfect reception on My Samsung HDTV

Viewing and recording on the Compro T200 was really good. The only downside to the Compro was a specific media center issue. When you first went to live tv after opening media center sometimes it would give you "no tv signal" message. Not a problem really as you just change channel and it works fine. However with media center when it is recording when you are away and this happens, you can end up missing your recording as MCE thinks thats the tuner doesn't work. This is why I changed card.
I don't think this is an issue at all with the compro tv software, just with Media center.

Frank - are you running the latest drivers? On board tv cards to tend to be a bit more signal sensitive, but if it's as bad as you say have you considered rmaing the card?

I updated to beta drivers ( never been a fan of betas to be honest but couldnt be worse than no signal lol) and now I am getting a signal in the terratec tuning software - even though the encoder wasnt brilliant (sound and video glitching) will try CyberLink and Media Centre tonight

Also want to try and dl h264 codac - unfortunately even though I am near Crystal Palace I dont even seem to be getting a signal for HDTV transmission as a "radio" station

I live near crystal palace also and pickup the HDTV transmissions ok with a nebula tv card and there beta drivers, only problem is pic only runs at 12 frames a sec and you only get a 1 min preview each time you click on one of the HD channels. Have heard theres a way round this to get the full HD using CoreAVC H.264 video codec and the player with come with it but not tried

Frank - are you splitting the signal at all? When i used a cheap unpowered aerial splitter I had the same issue as you. I relented and bought a powered 4 way one and happily send cables (up to 25m long) to 4 different rooms with no signal issues now.

I am yes, however I have put the same cable into the back of the tv and its a perfect picture , so unless the tuner isnt as good (which is possible) then not sure what else it could be.

im thinking of buying the Compro T200 to record sky tv from the s-vid input,
any of you tried that and is it ok?
