I'm sick to death with my Sagem USB one. I really need an ethernet modem that won't power off and won't complain about the banwidth etc.
I've been looking at the BT Voyager ethernet modem.
I hope to expand soon so can I use the ethernet ADSL modem on a cable router?

Yep, you'll be able to use an ethernet ADSL modem with a cable router. I've got several X-Modems at work which never given me any problems.

Have you already got the cable router? If not, I'd simplify things and get an ADSL router rather than having seperates.

I've not got no router at all. Just the PC connected to the internet.
On the side I have the other PC which the family can really use, and next week i'm getting an old P3 laptop which i'll do wirelessly.

As cheap (roughly) to buy an ADSL router and sell it if you go to cable than it is to buy separate router and modem now.

Just pick up a pci card just as fast and reliable - if not more so- than an ethnet box. A Connexant can be picket up at auction for less than £10. Conexant software also give line situation - attenuation/noise etc

My current setup is a BT Voyager 205 Modem and a Netgear... Erm, hang on... I will just check...

Right, a netgear MR814V2 Router.

I can honestly say that its quite simply the pits.

I have NEVER had any Wireless device playing on it, and the internet just slows to a crawl after just a few minutes, and large downloads such as Drivers etc start off at a good pace, ( 200K ish ) but then teeter off to below 1K after a while.

Playing games online is fine on just one PC but when me and my kids try playing together online, we might as well go Dialup.

Previously, I used a BT Voyager 100 USB thingy and I was able to have my games playing silky-wilky even when my server was running MetaCafe, and Azureus and never once had a hitch of any kind, but now... PHART!

Oh, and MetaCafe has an issue with it too that I cant resolve, and that is that it tries to DL a load of Media and then forgets them and I end up with 2 or 3 left, and the only way to get more, is to quit it all the time... No good.

So, for an Ethernet Modem, I would not siuggest BT unless you only have simple requirements from the Modem, and the netgear is cruddy for wireless.
