Recommend me (can't believe I'm away to say this) a vacuum cleaner!

£35 wasted - a Miele is not going to break down the first ten years. Probably not in the ten after that either. The most common reason from people getting rid of them is either a) an upgrade, or b) the hose breaks and you can't get a replacement (Miele tend to change the connection design every decade or so). Nothing else will go wrong. Agree - go Miele.

M

I'll be happy if it doesn't break in 10 years, and £35 isn't much for the peace of mind.

I have a Dyson Animal that's about 7 years old. Never failed and always hoovers up the rug of hair my dog leaves behind..
I'm looking to get a new Dyson but have heard reports of the newer ones being a bit poor compared to the older. Think I will look into this Miele as it sounds interesting.

Sebo or Miele.

I think Sebo about edge it on uprights but Miele canister vacuums are best.

I've got a Sebo. I got it because my parents have had one ten years and it just works.

There's a really handy stair cleaning accessory for it.

Just looking at some reviews of this Dyson you mention - make sure it's going to have the battery life you require. Apparently you basically need the "MAX" button pushed which hammers the battery. I'd also budget for a spare battery in the cost because you know that's going to wear out.

I've got a Miele Cat and Dog and recently bought a Dyson Digital Slim as the Miele was awkward for the stairs. Finding now I am using the Dyson more and more as it is so much convenient, and picks up better. 12 minutes doesn't sound much, but is more than enough to do a decent sized room.

I could never see the attraction to Miele vacuums. I bought a Dyson DC25 Ball a few months ago and it's awesome. I actually enjoy using it and that's a hell of a challenge :D

I'm always amazed by the amount of **** it lifts out of the carpet and I enjoy the hassle free method of disposing the contents. No bags, no dust.

If you have a good imagination, you can pretend you are on a lunar mission and you are collecting samples to bring back to earth. It looks the part for such a task and it helps me enjoy the whole vacuuming thing more.

When it comes to vacums there really is only one choice, it's got to be a "Henry". Our current model has been abused beyong belief.

He's be used for:
1) Cleaning out the fire grate on a reguar basis
2) Sucking up copious amounts of rat pooh (don't ask)
3) The usual vacuming stuff
4) Cleaing up split water on a carpet. Though he seriosuly did not like that.

To top things off he's been dropped down the steps twice and off scafolding. And still he goes on and on. When he finally dies it'll be like a loss in the family. Admitedly one that can easily be repalced for around £100 from screwfix.

If you are limited on sockets then a battery one makes sense,
Also probably every Dyson model is lighter than a Miele, so less to lug about.
Some are quite compact so easier to store, the ball models are a lot easier to use and can even clean under small ledges.

Well thanks for the input guys (and comments about my flat!)

I don't know what I was expecting (suppose that's why I was asking the question) but think I'm going to go with the Dyson.

Like I said my current Miele is a great hoover just not suited to perfectly suited. I'll still keep it on standby for the odd spring clean but for day to day stuff I haven't been able to find anything better suited than this Digital Slim thing so am going to give it a shot.

Prepared to be proved wrong so keep an eye on the for sale section for one going cheap :)
