Hey, recently started kick boxing and I'm after some gloves and a training pad you strap to your arm. Anyone able to recommend me a decent pair of gloves? I'm not sure what ounce they need to be. Cheers.

don't worry yourself too much over them, personally if you are going to use them for sparring with classmates then get a decent size, you don't need to be hitting each other with 8-10oz you want 12+ imo. closed fist will be more comfortable than open and the glove will sit more securely on your strikes. get a velcro strap, lace ups are the best but are impractical when you have to keep taking your gloves off and putting them on again which you will when working the pads with a partner so velcro is the best bet to make sure you give your wrist enough support.
Don't worry yourself too much about the branding though i've dealt with black eagle martial arts supplies for some of my online purchases before and for non brand name stuff they supply good value and good quality materials.
for your pads do you need thai pads, a kick shield or focus mitts? Personally i'm a fan of working with focus mitts as your gym will normally provide a good quality kick shield but focus pads are often ill fitting and loose. the elite hook and jab pads on that black eagle site are top quality. bloody great fit and nice solid padding.
Don't forget to get yourself a gum shield as well if you will be contact sparring, to begin with you can spend less than a fiver and get a decent quality one. they are well worth it.
Oh and make sure you aren't dropping your guard as you throw those punches. everything comes from within your guard
The gloves you said were good are the ones we use in training, so I'll try and find some around that weight you said.
The pads we use are thai pads, and they are **** for taking kicks to! Either that or my leg isn't conditioned too well - my instructor was showing my partner how to roundhouse kick to the thigh and did it about 5 times fairly lightly it seemed but gave me a dead leg every time.
I'm loving this sport though, pretty intense going - I'm in the intermediate / advanced class because ive got lectures when the beginners class is on! How long have you been doing it for?
heh, you'll be getting dead legs through the pads for quite a while yet. I've been doing thai boxing/kickboxing for a few years now. really enjoy the fitness benefits and i like entering competitions although i'm not fighting again until the new year now. You'll get frustrated as you keep making the same mistakes over and over again as you keep doing it but you'll unconsciously improve and the benefits you'll notice are amazing.
