just had my headlight bulb blow on my car and thought instead of buying a bulb from halfords, id get some that are like ultra bright compared to the normal ones,

the size is H4, i dont want them to be boy racer chav blue or any other colour that is illegal, just bright white and legal!

ive had a look on ebay and theres loads, im not sure which ones are good!

which ones do you use?

I know you said no Halfords but, I got some of those all weather ones, ones in the Gold Package i think (The most expensive ones) they had a buy one get one free offer so it only cost 19.99 for two instead of double that, very bright and they have lasted for ages, came back from aberdeen yesterday (6 / 7 hour drive and they came in really handy over standard fittment bulbs)

Gonna upgrade to a HID kit next month though.

jus went out to halfords today and picked up some laser blue lights. they maybe called laser blue but they jus put out bright white light. last ones i bought were cheapies from ebay and they were terrible.

Try Philips VisionPlus or Osram Silverstar. Used VisionPlus H4's on the Bora and have H7 Silverstars in the Fabia. Get them from www.powerbulbs.co.uk or Red Griffin Styling on the interweb.

I can't really recommend the Halfords ones - they're varying makes of bulb depending on the size and time you buy. Better to get the pukka Philips or Osrams IMO.

I got some Philips VisionPlus bulbs and they really are good compared to the standard ones. Now doing any country road at night you can see where the road is going. One main thing that i noticed also was how early it was lighting up signs in the road which means you get more time to read the sign and decide.

If you want to do an HID conversion (why do people call them Xenon's - it's only the metal halide arc tube which contains xenon, the headlight system iscalled: HID - I guess it sounds cooler ;)), it'll set you back a few hundred quid. If you want some powerful bright white lights philips do Vision Plus lights which are very good for halogen lights. A lot of halogen lights now say "xenon" but that's more marketing rather than actually making your headlamps look like HID lights.

cheers guys! will take a look at them links. My car really ain't worth hid conversion lol.

its amazing, i didn't realise this before but after driving this evening, i saw many many cars that have only one bulb working! i suppose you dont notice unless it happens to your own car.

They are xenon as they contain xenon rather than halogen gas in the bulbs.

I have ring sport blues in mine, and as much as you are thinking they are going to look awful they do actually give out a brilliant white light despite the name  However I think it is due to the old style headlamps in my car, as my friend with a MK2 Saxo which has the clear headlamp lenses has the same bulbs and they look as you say "boy-racer blue". To be honest you won't notice much difference with just replacement bulbs though apart from perhaps a brighter patch on the road. HID's are the way to go, but bit overkill on a car as cheap as mine.

Osram Silverstars in mine.
I do most of my driving down unlit country roads. The bulbs didn't really increase range much, except for reflective materials eg road signs. The lack of increase in range is probably due to the lens and reflector optimised for a dipped beam rather than main beam.

I put Xenon H4s in my motor recently. Didn't appear to make a lot of difference, despite the claims of 20% more light. Not that it matters that much, only cost £10 and I now have two spare bulbs.

I put some Halfords Xenon H4's in mine...massive improvement on the standard halogen bulbs I used before. A proper HID kit may be brighter, but what I have is bright enough for me so I'll save my money.
