Found my two old consoles in the loft and fancied having another go. I want to pick up some games from auction but need some suggestions.

Please recommend me a few and why they are good.

Thanks!

Copy and pasted from my post in another forum, with some editing out of non SNES/MD games ;):

Ignoring the obvious Mario/Sonic/etc games:

Castlevania series (SNES) - Excellent vampire-stabbing fun.
Final Fight series (SNES), Streets of Rage series (MegaDrive) - Both quality old-school side-scrolling beat-em-ups (hyphen-tastic!)
Jurassic Park (SNES) - Used to love this on my mate's SNES. Top-down shooter, good fun, with admittedly rubbish 3D indoor segments.
Alfred Chicken (SNES) - I really loved the GB version of this, but apparently the SNES one isn't much cop, so watch out.
The 'Strike series (Urban Strike, Jungle Strike, etc) (MegaDrive) - Fantastic games, all of them. Top-down chopper shooter.
Lost Vikings (SNES) - Bit like Hidden and Dangerous. Only 2D. With Vikings. In Space. So not much like it at all really.
Mortal Kombat series (SNES), Street Fighter series (SNES) - If you haven't heard of either of these, please leave the room now.
Bomberman (any of them, they're pretty much identical) (various) - There's nothing quite like drunken multiplayer Bomberman. Can't be beaten.
Super Mario RPG (SNES) - Suprisingly good, and very unlike any other RPG out there.
R-Type series (various, I think) - Top notch side-scrolling space shooter.
Super Star Wars series (SNES) - Yet another side-scrolling shooter, quite like the Metal Slugs, and good fun.
Yoshi's Island (SNES) - Overlooked quality platformer.
Super Metroid (SNES) - Just plain excellent.
Megaman series (SNES) - Hard as hell, but pretty good fun games.
Sensible Soccer (MegaDrive) -
Kirby series (SNES) - Another series of quality overlooked platformers, quite unique.
Mean Bean Machine (MegaDrive) - Quite simply, one of the best puzzle games ever made.
Super Off Road (SNES) - Top-down driving game. Great fun.
'Turtles Tournament Fighters (SNES) - Great fighting game. Up there with the Street Fighters and 'Kombats on the SNES imo.
Almost any SNES RPG (Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasies, Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia) - Well duh, they're pretty much all excellent, quite frankly. Chrono Trigger in particular is my favouritest console game of all time, so I order you to buy that at the very least.

EDIT: Formatting and reasoning added. :)

Secret of Mana, Mystical Ninja (Goeman the Warrior), Final Fantasy 6, Super Mario World 1 & 2 (Yoshi's Island), Super Mario Allstars, Super Mario Kart, and Super Boberman are my fave SNES games - the the only games I refuse to sell :)

Cybernator (Assault Suits Valken) is one of the best shoot 'em up games ever.
Axelay is also pretty cool
R-type on the SNES was pretty poor and suffered from severe slow down when it got busy. Check out R-type 3, Axelay and Parodius as well as Pop 'n' Twin Bee though.
Rock 'n' Roll Racing - superb soundtrack and a great racer.
Super Probotector (Contra III) - rock hard arcade shooter.

Kirby series (SNES) - Another series of quality overlooked platformers, quite unique.

Erm... what Kirby games were on the SNES?

I remember Kirby Superstar, it was a weird mini-game thing plus the original Kirby's Dreamland, but I'd never seen Kirby's Dreamland 3 before. Looks like it came out in late 1997 ( ) and didn't even get a European release. You learn something new every day. :)

I swear I saw it in a Mega Drive box with Chaos Engine written on it :\. Maybe that's the U.S version or something?

Actually not maybe, yes it is. get The Chaos Engine now it's just about the best game ever.

I can't stress this enough:

Unirally!

It's as mad as a cheese sandwich but it's a fantastic game, I ploughed so many hours into that it was ridiculous. If you can find it I'd definitely recommend it :)
