Hi all,

I'm new to investing, trading, stocks etc. but I'm very interested to learn more.

I've got myself a portfolio set up and also on some crypto sites for that side of things.

I'd like to learn more and get to know the terminology so was thinking of getting a book. Can anyone recommend something that helped them when they started out? Any seasoned traders with advice on how to learn it all in an efficient manner?

Cheers

There is a thread in here that is worth reading if you can filter through the noise.

I recommend reading "The Simple Path To Wealth". Being a day trader can make you lose your hair.

FX Evolution offer courses and guidance on investing. I don't subscribe if I'm being honest but their discord chat is a good place to start.

Is investing not just posh for gambling? and a mugs game really unless you've had a tip? lol
I remember my bank trying to get me to invest in stocks when I got my redundancy...15 years ago now I declined but mentioned it to my mum who went for it and lost a few thousand on the safe bets they offered.

Where do you think pension growth comes from?

Edit: But yes, day trading is partially posh gambling :p

Never ever take investment advice from a bank. Work out how to invest yourself.

I did a lot of reading and just decided based on it the easiest way was just to put money into a a fund / S&S ISA (tax free) and let someone else deal with it.

https://www.vanguardinvestor.co.uk/ and https://www.hl.co.uk/ are recommended brokers. With Vanguard FTSE Global All Cap or Lifestrategy generally the ones people recommend.

From what I understand they will generally perform better than someone buying individual shares, unless they know what they're doing.

All I have to do is put cash in there and click buy then it's hands off.

but still, how did it work?

This is a pretty nice video I saw recently. Chaos.

The key skill of investing is risk management. It is always about controlling probabilities.

A way to reduce risk is "dollar cost averaging" (DCA):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dollar_cost_averaging

A low risk (and effort) investment technique would to be to DCA into Bitcoin (although you would probably be using Sterling ;) ).

To start with you should understand what is money. So, what is money supply, what is inflation, and what is "hard money". Once you understand this, you will understand why Bitcoin has been one of the best investments of recent years.
