I've been running a few quotes about for bikes I might like *should* I eventually find myself on two wheels.

Some have been laughable which is to be expected and others 'stomachable'.

Bikes in question are ZX6R / GSXR600 / YZF600R.

22, O Bike NCB, licence would have been held for a couple of months and these would be my first bike. 5 years car NCB come August.

The best so far is between £950 and £1070 TPFT depending on which security measures (Datatool S4-C1 'Red' and the first chain on the list). They may be better alarms/chains but for insurance quotes sake I picked these ones. Fully comp I'd be looking at £1700. For now the bike would be on the drive though come October when I'm moving in to my own house the bike would be kept in a locked + alarmed garage.

These are with 'eBike'.

Normally I've been able to find car insurance a little cheaper than on comparisons (which I'm not really a fan of). Adrian Flux were very competative with my car insurance so I might give them a ring at some point.

Are there any companies you would recommend trying as a newbie with 0 NCB or experience. I've tried a few such as 'carolenash' and 'Wickedquotes' I think which were either very expensive or unable to quote me.

Ta,

Have you tried the Tesco Compare site?.

It hunted down by far the best deals for me on my Aprilia RSV. Ended up with £128 fully comp. :)

Cheers. I had tried thebikeinsurer actually. Tesco compare spits the same results. eBike coming out cheapest followed by MCE about £200 steeper.

SDP and SDP+ C comes out the same. Think I have some monster phonecalls to make later in the year!

When I was looking at my last renewal wicked quotes were very cheap which infact put me off. In the end I went with swinton as they were cheapest after all their cashbacks and price matching.

What kind of age bikes are you looking at, new-ish (say last 3 years) 600 sports bikes are reasonably expensive to insure, especially for a new rider with 0 NCB,

dunno if you're even slightly interested in them but might be worth trying some of the naked bikes, eg Triumph Street Triple (standard or 'R'), very good bikes and generally cheaper to insure than the sports bikes, but obviously if you've got your heart set on the sports bike looks then that's not gonna help much :p

Around 2004 seems to have reasonably priced ZXR6's and lots of examples. I love the 2009 ZX6R but don't particularly want to end up in the position of stacking £5/6k worth of bike on a TPFT policy!

I could be swayed by a different style who knows. Having never ridden I might really dislike the positioning of the sports bike or the particular example. Will have to wait and see :)

I've a feeling Adrian Flux might be a winner, will give them a call at some point next week most likely.

A chap drove past me on a ZX6R today :(

Wouldn't go with MCE. Sure, the policy is cheap, but trying to talk to them, or not renew, is very difficult. My brother was with them for two years, then told them he wanted to leave after 2nd year. Took about 6 phone calls before they'd finally stop trying to charge him in the 3rd year, despite him having a separate policy with another insurer.

He used TheBikeInsurer to find his current policy.

Im with MCE, 1 year NCB from a 125 and insured on a zx6r about 40mins after passing my test, they were the best.

I can believe that, but the quote I got from MCE for my Mille was under a third of the next closest price (£230 vs £750). I'm prepared to put up with a bit of inconvenience for that kind of saving.

Try Bell insurers, http://www.bell.co.uk .... they seem to deal with young drivers and people with lots of points on their license.

I've been with tem for about 5 years and they always seem to come up cheaper for me on the premium .... though if you have an accident their excess is something like £500.

Thanks for the recommendation of MCE!

Just got the price of my Daytona 955i down from £500 to £300 :) With a much lower excess too!

£200 discount's worth a bit of hassle to leave the buggers at the end...

I can believe that,.

I am with MCE never had any hassle but i suppose there is always a first, they are highly recommend by mcn so i think if this was a common thing they would have picked it up by now.

last year zzr1200 fully comp £162 god bless em :D

Unsurprisingly if I were a year older with 1 years NCB my premium is 40% of that which it will be in my first year *rollseyes*. Most insurers will be happy to touch me with a short stick next year which will be nice.

My quotes for the Mille were high because I have 0 NCB, but MCE seem to value my great age more than other insurers. Last year my SV650 was about £90 fully comp with 0 NCB from MCE.

I'm very much looking forward to insurance premiums when I'm over 25 as they're going to be laughable in comparison to now!

My first car, 1.4 Corsa, cost me £1400 fully comp. A ZX6R when I'm 5 years older will cost me almost that on TPFT. Robbing bar-stewards.

I went to thebikeinsurer and wicked quotes came out on top. I'm 26, new rider so 0 bike NCB. 2 years on my car insurance. £450 fully comp on a 2008 Z750 datatagged and kwak immobiliser, kept in a garage. They've been great with declaring mods. Everything I've added has had no extra charge.

Wicked quotes won't touch me until I'm 26 on a ZX6R with no NCB/experience.
Adrian Flux couldn't quote me.
Bikesure wouldn't quote me.
MCE couldn't either.
Swinton couldn't.
Tiger just sourced me eBike but at a higher price.

Looks like eBike are winning. I will not miss this when I eventually turn 25!
