Record rise in insurance costs

We get a huge wad of scum deciding that because they were clumsy there is money in it and the good folk have to fund them. You reap what you sow, something some people should remember when they make a claim for 10K for stubbing their toe on a bed that moved due to the lack of bin collections causing their house to subside because of the extra weight.

Something needs to be done because it is now getting ridiculous.

What i don't get is why people who have never had a claim are paying four figures for their insurance. Surely people should be stung AFTER they have had an accident/claim via a large excess and massively increased future premiums. I appreciate insurers need to minimise their risk and make money, but it seems to me that they are having their cake and eating it.

I've been driving 4 years, i'm 32 and have 3 years NCD. The renewal for my S60 - £750 was the cheapest.

With these prices it is no wonder that people front, abuse DOC cover or just don't bother to buy insurance at all.

Mine has gone down allot this year turning 25 and having 6yrs ncb knocked about £200 off and now protected the ncb and doc cover. Cant complain £425 for the year with the extras :D

I have just been running a few quotes tonight as looking at a second car.

Same insurer everything the same, just changing NCB.

0 years NCB - £670
4 years NCB - £630

£10 a year discount for each years NCB, miserable buggers, I expected it to be massively lower than that after getting the quote with 0 NCB, thinking high 300 - low 400 mark!

Mines gone up for £200. I'm 21 with 3 years no claims and was hoping of getting my premium for my Civic 1.4 lowered. No such luck.

Oddly with my former insurance company (MoreThan) they refused a quote for my Civic but gave me a quote for a Clio 172 at around £1500. A week later I get a renewal quote for the Civic at £1311.18. If I had the money I'd be jumping to a better car for not much of an insurance increase! :p

total courtesy car time over 3 weeks or £3500 in vehicle hire costs which could have been under £500 if they had any common sense.

Similar madness to my experience.

6 years ago I had a own fault accident where I wrote a car off spinning on ice.

The RAC offered (I was with RAC) to get the car back home, this would have cost the insurance company £700 upwards.

A farmer said he would take the car back home at a cost of £150. I thought I was doing the insurance a good favour.

The insurance company would not honour the farmers expense (said it was not a proper company - but was on letter headed paper).

If it ever happens again (god hope not), i'm calling a recovery firm and the insurance can pay the fall amount.

Tell me bout it, my insurance renews on the 21st of this month and its went UP by £100 which I think is a joke. Im 24 with 3 years no claims (no accidents ever) and im paying £700 a year for a 1.6 focus, its a joke.

Mines the lowest its ever been at £400 :)

Wow, you're not much older than me either. Ignoring my ban I remember you've had a couple of incidents like myself (fault and non-fault claim?) yet my insurance has always been a black hole. I live in a great area but terrible postcode because the town it stems from is an s-hole. Despite being about 9/10 miles away from Blackburn, apparently my postcode is very high risk. Considering there's 16 houses (one small cul-de-sac) in my full postcode, none of which had had a car related theft or damage in the 25 years I've lived here, it makes me wonder how they work this out.

Are there any aggravating factors to declare on your insurance, I know you've had a couple of claims, do you still have to tell them about those? Maybe the 530i is a great car to insure but I quoted an E60 530i (our company car) and it came out worse than my previous list at close to £3k (pot luck quote on confused) with my ban included. Without it was £1k. Still, the £600 seems unjustified.

im paying £430 at renewal (in <2 weeks) for a 1.6 Civic (im 24 with 3 years NCB) - could be post code related?

I've had a fault claim but it's actually long enough ago that I no longer declare it, but to be honest it wasnt that bad last year with it included.

To give you an idea, I have been quoted £650 for a 335i M Sport, £800 for an E46 M3 and, bizarrely, £690 for a 911 GT2*

*I have no intention of buying nor can afford such a beast, I was trying to find something expensive to insure!
