Recorded delivery No longer offers any compensation?

I was just looking at Royal mail website to find cost of posting an item recorded when Ibnoticed there no longer seems to be the 100x first class stamps compensation!

Does this make recorded signed for a lot less useful?
May as well send it plain first class if you know the person!

Recorded delivery is for receipt of delivery, Special delivery is where the insurance is.

Its the normal stamp that offers the same compensation as recorded.

The recorded part is nothing to do with the compensation. Even if you post it 2nd class (and get a proof of posting) you get the same amount:

Customers will be entitled to a postage refund plus compensation for actual loss up to the value of the item, or £46, whichever is the lowest.

Which used to be 100x the first class stamp, but after the price increases it did not go up and is stuck at £46.

they do still offer compo on recorded they just don't make it that clear on the recorded delivery info page
