Lo all, I'm looking at some way of conecting my guitar up to a pc to record what I'm playing. Basically I want to get a drum sample, lay down a rythm guitar, and then be able to play over the top.

Trouble is, I don't have a clue how to go about it. Most people seem to talk about plugging their guitar into their soundcard, which I wouldn't know how to do, and sounds a bit fiddly. I'm assuming I need some sort of software, is there any that you could reccomend?

I have seen some devices that work via USB, but would that suit my needs?

I really don't have a clue, so please no technical posts. Explain how you explain to a small child!

Thanks :)

Hoorah, I ordered it!

Will make some quick demos and upload them when I recieve and tell you all if I think its any good :)

I hope you don't blame me
I didn't go just off of your suggestion, read some reviews and it seemed to get a pretty damn good responce.

But if I hate it, I will be blaiming you, yes ;)

Now listen to me very carefully -
Now go onto the Variax page and listen to some of those sounds coming from the Variax guitars through Variax gear such as the Toneport.

Also go to this page and listen to what this guy has done with the Variax - http://www.guitaristjeffmiller.com/audio.htm
Was being sarcy, I don't doubt line6 for a second :)

I'm really excited about starting recording. It gives me a chance to redo all my favourite songs, and start putting decent effort into making my own.

*Bounces up and down* :D

Being too lazy to read through it all, do you need any Line6 hardware in order to use this software?
It comes with the Toneport hardware you need to connect it to your pc, ya.

Bah, hurry up friday :(

Which TonePort are you getting, the UX2?
I beg your pardon, I don't think that is included, I misquoted something.

I believe you get a guitarport with the rifftracker/riffworks software.

Have you got it yet?
I have indeed :)

However my main pc crashed, groan, so I'm running it on a lesser powerful pc, which is struggling a bit with it.

First of all, installation, ugh. A case of easy when you know how, or maybe easy when you arn't an idiot!

I havn't even got around to recording anything yet, but I'll get some samples up for you all as soon as possible. It not quite as accessable as line6 may have you believe, but give me an hour or 3 I'm sure I'll be a pro. There is a sickening amount of sounds, and they are all quality. Stay tuned and I'll try and get something up... just when I figure out what I'm doing, hmmm.... :p

*Watches tutorial videos*

First impressions: "Oh man, this looks rediculously tweakable..... awesome!"
