Hi there,

I am trying to retrieve data from a dying 2.5" C drive (SSD). The last time I booted with it chkdsk showed countless "segment __ unreadable" errors.

I need to retrieve the data so bought an external USB caddy to try to access the files on another machine; unfortunately it is not showing up in My Computer or Disk Management.

I am not sure if the fact that Windows was installed on it could prevent it from being read using this method or if the drive is now dead.

Any advice on the best way to access the files on the drive would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The fact that it's not being detected isn't the best news, but I'd try running it in a Linux environment to see if it shows up there. I'd download Ubuntu and make a bootable memory stick/optical disc and see if it picks it up.

:Edit: Confirm that it's even powering on, feel for vibration.
