Hi

i've used a reg key backup technique to help with installing GrabIt newsgroup reader software that worked well as it had all my news sever values

just wondering - is there a reg key to backup to do the same for
network settings ?

its for a laptop with wireless set up by someone else - the keys etc. are all
sorted by someone else who hasn't kept good records . . .

havn't thought this thru but its worth a shot

any other ideas on this are welcome

p.s. i haven't wirelessed myself for years - i'm a desktop cable man

thanks

i'm open to ideas - unhash the * is an idea

i'll have to log into the router (tiscali so no idea yet) then i guess
i can see the keys ok ?

i'll check netsh as well

learning all the time :)

displayed in the config - call me thick but you mean the usual log in screen
you get with a router - that shows ID and Password ?

i've never used it so i'm trying to obtain as much info as possible

i'm going to have to reset up a vista laptop from scratch hence all these questions

thanks

just found this

http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/tamir/archive/2008/06/05/backup-and-restore-your-wireless-networks-settings-by-using-wirelessmigrator.aspx

which is this :-

http://www.codeplex.com/wlan/

Project Description
Handy small program, that knows to backup and restore all wireless networks setting from your computer. For some reason, there is no way to do it by using regular Windows Vista tools.
This feature is extremely useful, when you have to reinstall your computer or use the same settings of wireless networks for different machines.
In order to use the program, all you have to do is to run it once. The program generate small file, can be handled and transfered in diskette. Later if you'll run this generated file, all settings of wireless networks will be restored on target machine.

looks good !!!

windows 7 has such a feature built in apparently
