Hi,

So I've been informed by an Apple admin that has traditionally imaged our mac builds that with with the new Apple hardware OSX cannot be fresh (re)installed via caching proxy server and instead needs to download the image from Apple's CDNs directly. This seems very unlikely given the number of enterprises that don't allow direct access to the internet.

Is there any accuracy to this? The closest I can find is this article:

Last place I worked at anything with no SDHC or usb couldn’t be imaged locally and required an internet restore.

I would think they could be imaged through a Mac server though. I’m not sure Apple would have moved to a Full Internet required infrastructure to restore their hardware.

I haven’t worked there for a while so not sure how true that is as I haven’t had my hands on anything else after.

I would think it was true but can’t verify that statement 100%.

I’m sure someone will be able to tell you better who has a newer system model.
