It was as good as it seemed AFAIK but the cost was astronomical.

The actual one that came out was a massive chunky thing. Looked like an old BBC keyboard or something lol. Cool idea though

An Elgato Streamdeck does similar things these days doesn't it?

I thought the same. If a new keyboard which is akin to the Elgato where all keys are customisable - It will happen.

If one wanted to find a video review of that keyboard it would likely be searchable under "Optimus Maximus Keyboard review (Cherry ML)".

I can't link the video as it contains inventive language...

It was never a great keyboard, BUT...

Considering THIS was made in 2004 and it took how long for the Elgatto Stream deck, it was a good attempt.

Kids of today talk about "hype".

This thing was towing some HUGE hype train behind it, probably 5 years?

Not really - touchbar replaces the F key row and has OS support. These basically had small screens in each key and some assignable hotkeys like any gaming keyboard of the period.

I always planned on buying one of these when they came out so I could use it for Flight Simulation.
That was before I knew how much it was going to cost and the price at the time shocked me when I found out.

If someone did something like this nowadays at a reasonable price, I would still be interested.

I saw this quite recently, didn't another company pick up the concept design and release a similar product a few years back?

I can barely be arsed to set up lighting profiles for games, can't see how this would be better.

Maybe if it was standardized and games could set up the keys themselves with their own icons but I feel that won't happen before vr takes over.
