Hi,

I have 2 pcs I want to access via remote desktop both are on xp pro sp2

so pc1 has port 3389 open and pc2 has port 3391 open

I can connect to pc1 but not pc2...

Why ?

Which port must I open for pc2? as I take it I cant use port 3389 for pc1 and pc2?

Please help

thanks in advance..

cheers

Have you configured the Remote Desktop on the second machine to use port 3391 (AFAIK you can't)?
Unless you're doing some port redirection on the router (i.e. 3391 on the outside gets redirected to 3389 on the inside), you can't just arbitrarily pick a different port.

pc1 = on router and win xp port 3389 and it works
pc2 - on router only i opened port 3390 and it wouldnt work

if i change the registry on pc2 to make RDP port = 3390 and then open port 3390 on the router u reckon it will work?

I'd just set the router to listen on 3390 on the external and forward to 3389 on the internal. Saves any reg edits, and having to remember what ports are used for internal RDP connections.

Me to, as i said, port redirection would be my preference but not all home routers support it...

does a thomson 780wl router support port redirection?

i tried to reg edit and change port to 3390 in windows and set router to listen on port 3390 and it failed to work grrr

so only option is port redirection but i dont think my router supports it!!!

Dunno,... what options does it give you under port forwarding?

My Vigor for example gives
Protocol ,Public Port, Private IP, Private Port

So i can set a different private port to public port.

someone suggested connecting to pc2 through pc1 - does that make sense to anyone?

would that work?

is it cuz i have a crap router i cannot port redirect?
