As this is only my 2nd radio I've ever removed from a car (and the 1st one a cinch) I'm at a total loss now that I've been trying for over 30 mins!

Its a volvo 340 with a factory radio fitted. I've removed those little plastic covers on the sides but now what?!?

Please help!

Ta.

I suspect you need some removal pins

Has taking the covers off revealed 4 holes two in either side of the radio?

If it has you need a couple of bent coat hangers, push them into the holes and that should release the radio, you might need to pull it out using the tape slot

Yeah I've tried that. 4 screw drivers into each of the 4 holes at the same time. No matter how hard I pull it doesn't seem to want to come out!

Any ideas?

PS. How far to the screwdrivers/pins/coat hangers have to go in?

It depends but it can be quite a way, try with a coat hanger, you may be finding that the screwdrivers are sticking before the reach the plate to release the catch, you can get a way with doing one side at a time.

You you get totally stuck most places that fir head units will have a set you can use.

I've heard stories that sometimes theirs an M10 bolt at the back holding it in! Meaning I would have to go round the back! :(

But I just hope I'm being a chump.

I'll try again in a sec...

Chris

I have seen an M10 through the back of a cage but never going into the unit itself, just holding the fixing kit in. Once you get the radio out you'll be able to get to it.

The other option is to go with Nicky's idea and remove the insides :D

Sorry to revive this dead/green and decomposing thread, but I've FINALLY got round to actually getting the radio out.

I've got a JVC elcheapo cd radio to replace it but I obviously need an adapter. Do/would your average Halford sell them?

Cheers

Possibly, although you'll probably have to go to a larger branch since the Volvo 340 isn't really popular with the boy racers who shop at halfords.

You might have better luck searching online, maybe on an auction site.

Can someone possibly tell me what type of connector these are?

Radios

The top one is the JVC one (ISA? ISO? connector?) and the Volvo one is on the bottom - and I have NO idea what that one is.

Pleeeease help if you can :)

You may get better help on a radio/volvo forum. I'd find out the pin outs and rewire the plugs. It'll be 12v, ground, and wired to ignition, and wired to the battery for a permanent live. Now may be the time to invest in a multimeter :)

Well I went to Halfords, they didn't have the correct adapter and so I bought a "blank" one to wire myself as I would have had to do some rewiring anyway.

The thing is its now not turning on, with everything wired up. Power wise there were 2 brown and one green, (+ve and ground?). From the ISO connector I soldered the Red +ve and the yellow cables together then soldered them to the 2 browns (again soldered together). Thinking back this is obviously wrong. What should I have done?

PS. I left the blue and orange ones alone... they're not connected to anything.

Sounds like it's messed up. The red wire will probably be the ignition live, and the yellow, permanent live. You test this with a multimeter, checking the voltage when the iginiton is on and when it is off. I wouldn't goe randomly connecting wires with no idea what each one is. You'll likely blow a fuse in the car or radio or worse create a fire due to the electrics. That has happened to me and I caught it just in time.
