I just my hands on a phone I bought off fleabay - and the previous owner must have smoked like a chimney. The packaging, bubble wrap and phone have an immense cigarette smoke odour.

I'm just wondering how to get rid of it.. I thought it wouldn't bother me but I just used the phone for a call and I could smell it quite a bit. (Without returning the phone!)

I took off the back cover and sprayed it with febreeze which removed some of the smell. I've read online about baking soda and vinegar.. but what is safe to use on plastics?

I decided to post on this forum as it's more general and I hoped I would get more responses.

Okay, thanks lapin I have some of that stuff lying about somewhere, didn't think of it! If that fails maybe fire followed by microwaves or vice versa!

This is general discussion, you only get around 30% of serious posts per thread I reckon, not that it's a bad thing, it's a funny place, look at my thread, full of pasty smashers and haxors.

They all seem valid... apart from the mustard. I don't want my phone to grow hair!

Valid? Fire, Mustard, Microwave? :p

Don't forget you have to do it all in one go, or you're doing it wrong!

We bought a Cross Trainer on ebay and it absolutely wreaked of cigarettes. It kept its smell for months even though we washed it down many times and sprayed loads of odour neautraliser sprays at it.

I would never have thought that something made of hard plastic and metal could hold a smell so much but it did...grim.

Try googling it. "removing smoke smell from cell phone"

One suggestion I heard was rubbing alcohol. There was also "...I put the phone in a plastic zip lock back with a dryer sheet and now it just smells fresh. I think it will take a few days to lessen the dryer sheet smell, but it helped. "
