Mornin all

I've just bought a shuttle to move my 939 system to so my main case will be free to put a new system in sometime in the near future. Obviously, as part of this transplant I'll need to remove the stock heatsink I've had on my athlon.

Mainly I'd like to know what people use to remove the thermal material gunk but any other advice you may have will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
PK!

isopropyl alcohol or TIM remover..

I've used nail varnish remover before now.. Works just as well..

Remove the CPU from the motherboard, then clean with lint free cloth.
Don't rush it, take off the blobs of stuff first using lint free swabs then dry with a clean lint free cloth.

I use White Spirit, it tends to be the best thing I've found, it takes the paste of very quickly and very easily. But lots have their own opinions, such as nail polish remover / specialised thermal grease remover / isoprophyl alcholol / meths :)

Cheers for the advice guys. Where can I get lint free cloths and swaps from? A camera shop perhaps?

Cotton Swabs you should be able to pick up from somewhere like Boots or Superdrug (but they may not do them, just a guess) or any similar type store. Then just pick up some cleaning agent (ie. white spirit / meths etc) and use a couple of dry swabs to get the majority of the paste off, then dip another swab in the cleaning agent and clean the top, then another one or two to dry it up. I find the cloth an overkill but that's just my opinion, lots of people do it different ways :)

all the plava about what you should use I been hearing it for years across forums to use this that and the other...

you know what the best and simplest thing is?

tissue + paper...

dab the tissue in a drop of water and voila...easy as that....it will remove everything...then let it dry for 5 - 10 mins and your ready to go..
