Renault Scenic - what to look out for?

My advice would be to buy a zafira or allhambra instead, or a derv x5 if funds can stretch. French car electrics are prone to going wrong, seen several scenics and clios go **** up even just recently locally.

haha the zafira is the ultimate POS those things go wrong all the time, a friend had one that was only 4 years old and it needed everything doing to it, especially the electrics, so it seems just as bad as the scenic

Never had a problem with French electrics in all the cars I've owned and family members have owned....which is a huge amount of French cars. Stop talking out of your bum, especially as an x5 was obviously not in the running.

Added to that, not suitable for the purpose. The Scenic has 5 proper seats, not 2 front ones and a bench seat in the rear - something that was required.

why do people moan the 1.6 is gutless? its a 1.6... rev it to 5k and it goes "ok".

MPG wise its poor though, as its strained and trying to move a brick of a aerodynamic car. on the two 700mile trips (loaded to the roof with camping gear...) ive done in my parents 1.6 57 scenic, the max i managed was 37mpg. I can get more MPG out of my Fiesta ST on a motorway.

Please see post #24 - 3 proper seats were needed, due to soon having 3 young children, and 3 car seats won't fit across a rear bench seat.

We have three full size car seats in the back of the wifes Mk3 Mondeo

All with 3 point seatbelts?

Yes.

Mondeos are nigh on the same width as a Scenic (1812mm vs 1810mm) and a bigger boot.
