Renting a flat in Berlin

Can anyone who has lived in Berlin reccomend a good area to rent a flat in? Must be safe, and preferably reasonably close to the centre, whether by train or on foot.

Err... my dad owns a flat in Berlin that he's trying to sell. Interested?

I'll update this post later with a good area to rent, I can't remember the name of the area where I used to live but it was really lovely, ill ask my old man.

Sorry, only need it for 2 months, buying is a wee bit excessive!

I can find loads of places just from looking at sites advertised online, but I don't know the city so I'd be buying blind - don't want to end up either an hour out by train, nor centrally but in the drug-crime capital of Germany!
