Repairing a DS Lite?

My son's broken his DS Lite after only 3 months (surprise surprise!! :rolleyes: ).

Both of the LCD screens are damaged, but the touch screen is fine.

I'm just posting to see if anyone else has either fixed their's themselves or know of a company that repairs DS Lite? I've rang a couple of places but they didn't do the Lite only the older DS.

I've found a guy who sells the screens & that tridrive screwdriver you need to carry out the repair, but he's quoted £44 all in. The screens are £19.99 each.

I guess I'm just a little concerned about spending the best part of fifty quid, when i can only guess that it's only the screens that need replacing & nothing else.

Then again a 2nd hand console is going to cost at least £70.

Anyone?

The £44 was for the parts.....not parts fitted, hence my concerns. But all parts are supplied with fitting instructions.

And FYI there are 2 LCD screens, but the lower screen also has a touch screen that sits above the lower screen iirc ;)
 
As usual people appear to be paying almost new prices on The Bay :rolleyes:

The price of the parts is my main concern, but i can't seem to find them any cheaper tbh. :(

I rang Nintendo yesterday, to be informed i was in a queue...and my call would be answered in approximately 16 minutes!!

Rang this morning, but they're only open Mon-Fri *Doh*
 
Funnily enough my 5yo son 'can't remember' how it came to be in the sorry state that it is! :rolleyes:

When i saw it was broken he chirps up 'It's ok, we can go get another one...'!! :p

Understand that he's paying for the repairs out of his savings :D
 
I managed to get through to Nintendo yesterday after redialling for over 30 minutes....then holding for 49 :rolleyes: :D

Sending DS back today. The guy said they repair for free if damage covered under warranty (no chance tbh), otherwise maximum repair fee £45.25 (as Werewolf posted) & they send you a spanking new one!! :p

Pretty sure he said new, definately don't recall him using the word refurbished at any time during our conversation. I really should pay attention more :p

I think it#s a bargain too, seeing as the parts would've cost me the same price to fix the old unit!
 
Just saw this thread, thought i'd update.

After numerous calls (which requires holding up to 40min a pop), and weeks & weeks of my son asking when his DS would be fixed (he got 2 new games for Xmas which he couldn't play), Nintendo say that they can't find it. Royal Mail say the deleivered it on the 4th Jan, but even though it was sent by Recorded....they have no signature! Great. Do they care? Nope. The most we'll get back will be the £32 cos my dopey missus didn't send it Special delivery.

But there is hope! The guy my wife spoke with at Nintendo was really helpful. We've faxed them across a letter explaining everything & including a print-off that shows we bought the DS from an online store. We're hoping that nintendo will either A) Give us a new DS for free. B) Just charge us the £45 (£32 of which we'll hopefully claim back from RM).

Not the desired result.....but hopefully teach my son to look after his stuff!!! :p
