The ringing noise from the fridge is getting worse, eventually it could cause ringing in my ears. It will cost too much too pay to repair it. I watched this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMJ6gk4a7EY . The guy easily replaces a motor in a fridge and it looks similar to repairing a pc. I then downloaded the service manual for my fridge. It shows everything I need to know to repair it. A new motor for model of the fridge costs about £60 and a compressor costs £136. Do you know which part usually causes a ringing noise? Has anyone repair a fridge before with no experience?

If a new one would cost less, or around the same cost as the parts you need, then get a new one.

I'm sure you can get a decent replacement for around £200-300.

Wouldn't you also have to re-gas it?

I assume this is a American stlye Fridge, also does this have a freezer compartment?

Can you link to the make model of the fridge.

To replace the compressor you would need to decant the refrigerant, cut out the old comp, braze in the new one and install some schrader valves so you can pressure test, vac and recharge.

Yeh, id replace the whole thing. Fridges are just not worth the time/money to repair.

Oh, unless you have a fridge like the on in the video. That not going to be cheap to replace. Does it ring all the time? Or just when it turns on?

It rings only when the cooling mechanism kicks in, which is most of the time. I do not know if it is the compressor. IT is a Daewoo erf 334m, it is a fridge freezer. The motor and fan is accessible from the front in the freezer compartment. it cools ok, i think it is the motor. I am going to take all the freezer parts out later today and try to pin point the sound. I was reading it might just need a clean, but seeing as the fan is internal doubt that is the case.

I wouldn't recommend it. An electrical short in a fridge could result in plastic components and other highly flammable insulation catching fire.
