Samsung Bordeaux LE26R74BDX 26"

or

will I miss the size from dropping? 32" 4:3 <> 26" 16:9

You might notice a slight drop in screen size, but as a rough guide a 26" LCD has the same screen size as a 28" CRT, so yeah you might see a bit of a difference

I cant vouch for any of the other models bar the Samsung one which is what I've got and I think it is great! Good picture, even for SD, and I was worried I'd not like watching SD content on an LCD

Yes..a 26" 16/9 widescreen would look tiny next to a 32" 4:3 screen.

http://tvcalculator.com/

32" 4:3 TV = Image area: 491.9 sq. in (less 5% = 467.305)

26" 16/9 TV = Image area: 288.46 sq. in.

Knock 5% off the 32" 491.9 sq.in Image area because you don't get the full 32" of viewable screen on a CRT..

Even a 32" widescreen is going give you less Image area then your 32" 4:3 screen..

32" 16/9 TV = Image area: 437.04 sq. in

ah crud yeah didnt read that you had a 32" 4:3!!! i just assumed it was widescreen!

so yeah you will definately notice a drop in screen size!

yer but will the size drop be offset with the picture quality?

do i need seperate speakers rather onboard, current Tv has nice Sub/centre/speakers built in nad are pretty meaty.

second the motion of the samsung 26" r74, got one too, lovely jobby. i sit about 1 meter away from mine and watchign digital thru it is pritty much crystal clear.

Where on earth did you get a 32" crt @ 4:3 lol, it will look a far bit smaller but widescreen content won't be that much smaller, maybe you should try and get a 32" lcd then it won't be as long but it'll be a far bit wider.

Get the samsung it's the best one out of your options.

I guess You are quite young and cant remember TV's before widescreen :)

I got this in 1998 cost me £2500 which was a lot of money for a tv back then. was/(is) a beautifull tv just want to swap to lcd for space reasons, this baby takes 3 people to move it.

I'm not that young but I still can't remember 4:3 TV's being that big! (21), sheer height of it must be huge. I think if your budget can manage it get a 40" otherwise you maybe dissapointed with size, if not 40" 32" should be ok also as that'll be very wide.

According to that TV Calculator (great app), a 40" lcd should be a similar size to your 32" 4:3 crt.

I've got a 29" 4:3 and it's a monster, I can barely move it without giving myself a hernia :D

Most content these days is 16:9, so you won't see much difference moving to a 26" LCD. A 32" would actually be a bit of an upgrade :)

It's only with 4:3 formatted content that you'll miss the extra height.

heh - I was going to say the same thing. One thing is for sure - standard tele, gaming and dvd viewing will still look a whole lot better on the crt. It was a sad day when my Tosh ZP died - even sadder when seeing the PQ of the plasma and lcd screens that tried to replace it.

No point if the footprint doesn't bother you and if you won't be feeding it anything HD.

I'd stick with what you have (assuming you're happy with it) and save up for an obscene projector :)
