Replace the DMF or not?

According to this so called gearbox place (box was sent away) the gears and differential were fine. The gears were apparently pristine which surprised me.

Also thanks for the reply (rude of me).

I'm just highly peed off as the whole job was the wrong side of 1k!

I got lucky. Three days of the warranty left. Replacement had a faulty oil seal and got replaced again a couple of weeks later.

Does it do it in a particular gear?
What happens if you disengage the clutch?

Perhaps it's something else in the driveline, CV joint or the wheel bearing perhaps?

If you take the car out of gear there is no noise. It's typically most audible between 1500-1000 rpm in second and third gear.

It just isn't what I expected when the bill for the gearbox rebuild alone was £570.

Ouch.
Not the best of things especially if you were considering another car.
If the car is driving ok and you plan on giving it to a dealer eventually, would it not be best to run it as it is and hand it over to a dealer with the faults in place? Most of them will give you book price anyway without driving it.

Problem is Rich, I've already paid to have this rubbish fixed! Well apparently at least.... add a clutch DMF and the labour to remove and refit the gearbox and you can imagine just how expensive it was.

oh of course, my point was to not concern yourself with it further and possibly incur more expense. I know it is irritating but if you eventually plan on going down the route of a no strings sale to a dealership then it doesnt matter if it has niggly issues.

depends how long you intend to keep it of course.

I know I would be fuming if i had footed a bill like that to rid an issue and it persisted.
been in that situation before and it is no fun at all.

was a small garage and they weaseled their way out of it.

it wasn't something as important/expensive as the work you had done.

just suspension changes

persisted for a week or two but got stonewalled every time.
