My Grado SR-80's have finally fallen got many years of good use out of them and need some replacements now.

Very happy with the sound quality of the Grados but not happy about paying extortionate UK prices to replace them. Can anyone recommend me some alternatives. Was thinking about Sennheisers or Beyerdynamic.

Looking for something with neutral sound for use with XFi-elite Pro, my budget is upto £120.

My headphone recomendation:

Alessandro grado MS-1. Look similar to the sr-80's (have no model badge on grill tho),and will sound better than the sr-80's and more like the sr-125's.

Plus at $99 delivered worldwide with no crappy pricing regulations like the standard grado's you do the 'math'

:D

 ......thats a really good price.

Have you ordered from this company before? Did you pay by CC or some other method?

Have a look at the AKG K240 for a neutral sound. One of the best studio monitoring headphones out there.

nah ive heard a pair, but haven't ordered them. Search over at headfi.org and im sure you'll get all the info you need. If i remember correctly they don't deliver stupidly fast, but everything is good with them :D

These look good and have been well reviewed. How do they compare against the Grado SR80?

I have ordered from the Alessandro website before. Took a couple of weeks to get them but it's worth it for the huge saving over jacked-up Grado UK prices. CC was fine :)

Good to hear, Grado take the P**S with their UK pricing and restrictive export policies.

Im surprised that companies don’t seem to realise how much bad PR they are getting by ripping off UK Customers in the Internet era.

I used to own the SR80s, sold them and replaced them with AKGs (although the lesser 141s). Definitely more impressed with the AKGs, much more open sound, better soundstage, and more neutral than the Grados. The Grados I found quite limited in the selection of music they would perform well with.

I've just ordered some MS-1's... Just wondering, did you get stung with a customs charge at all?

I have the MS-1s and if you liked your Grados then by all accounts these are even better :) Highly recommended. Obv if you're looking to change to closed cups or a different style of fit etc then no point going for these as aesthetically they're identical!
