Colleague stoved his 07 Focus into a kerb, causing the seatbelt pre-tensioner to fire. (At a claimed 10mph, black ice you see). As the 'car guy' I have been tasked with fixing it!

It has gone off and caused the airbag light to illuminate - is it a case of replacing the part and clearing the code, or is it like when an airbag goes off and the sensor and computer bits have to be replaced?

I dont normally like fiddling with safety devices, so any help would be appreciated

Thanks

The part will need replacing and the ECU most likely need resetting.

I would suggest taking it to a ford stealer when dealing with safety devices.

Would it be part of the main ECU or a seperate one, I am willing to give it a go, although we will get it checked by someone who knows what they are doing

depends on the car, some of the newer cars have a separate ECU for the safety devices that cant be reset and needs replacing.

Not sure many on here will have experience of replacing this type of thing on a new model focus. Your best asking the local Ford Dealer.

your experience of the local ford dealer will depend entirely on how good the bloke at the desk is.

if he's a jobsworth, he'll specificly avoid telling you to generate business. One of the other local ford dealers may have somebody who will be more honest and have a genuine desire to help you, rather than just generate business for the company

Try phoning a few more i reckon :)

Sounds like a plan, he kept asking me if I was a garage, do they not give advice to businesses or something?
