Yup, did it on the same day I finished the HC Minimalist run, all S ranks first time and got the Handcannon.

Before Mercs, you had to finish Pro on NG without bonus items to get it, now you can just S rank all stages and done, which is great because it's super easy.

For S+ you basically can't drop the combo from start to finish, for S you can just faff about and still get it:p

Oooh. Good to know. Will do that next then. For now I ended up starting my 3rd chilled gameplay run with my PS5 controller on Standard. Boy do get given loads of ammo on Standard vs Pro mode. I will now try and make magnum only ammo as everything else there is plenty off.

Need to stop using my crossbow, but can't help it. I keep thinking I will save on handgun ammo

Might fully upgrade the Matilda handgun next for the fun of it. But first going to get the unlimited rocket launcher. I am halfway already on that :)

Yeah, I'll try working towards the IRL now as well but now on Ch4 Pro piling up money and enjoying the atmosphere, it's really easy in NG+ as you said, at least so far. Had enough leftover spinels to buy the upgrade ticket immediately so I can get inf ammo for the Handcannon but saving it for now. I might also try figuring out some shortcuts and strats in case I'm dumb enough to attempt that S+ Pro, which might be the case considering my last run:p

Haven't used the Matilda yet but I heard it absolutely melts bosses with Cat Ears but you need to get S+ on Pro to get that anyways.

First playthrough on Standard I only used the Punisher, then the Red9 on HC S+ Minimalist and really liked it with the stock. Now I'm using everything I can:p

I started a bunch of other games but I just keep thinking "oh well, just one more run of RE4":D

Same. Was thinking of uninstalling it but then said oh go on, one more time :D

Will just play as and when I fancy rather than it being the main game I am concentrating on.

I'm not even trying to focus on it, just nothing particularly grips me after it for some reason:p

I installed Freelancer (yes a 20 year old game) and am enjoying that.

But also quickly did the 3 mercenary missions and got the hand cannon. I actually managed to get S+ on the third mission :)

Does getting S+ on all 3 get you anything else as it seems it would be easy to do.

I actually thought the hand cannon was an unlimited weapon. Did not know it was just a slightly more powerful magnum. What makes it special? I think I would prefer my fully upgraded Killer magnum. Maybe I am missing something?

These remakes of the RE look utterly fantastic on oled in hdr.

Game playing beautifully maxed out with RT at 3440x1440 with TAA. Did try FSR 2 and well as per usual, complete and utter disappointment, FSR 1 lol....... modded in DLSS but getting crashing, thankfully this is a somewhat good TAA implementation though, that and great performance so not having dlss here isn't too much of a biggie.

You may have done something wrong. I got no crashing :)

Finally sharing my thoughts on the RE4 remake, having completed it some time ago now - tagging @TNA as I know he’s always dead keen on what I have to say :D

Well, it’s truly RE4, re-made! Aesthetically, it’s everything that I could have dreamed of. It looks stunning, particularly the village section. The best visuals are looking back into the village from the road that leads to the windmill. Those mountains!!

Content-wise, there is some content dropped (notably the most non-sensical or goofier scenes - lava in a castle?!) and some expanded sections in replacement. All things considered, it’s give and take on the various new + missing bits; good job on that overall.

There are various quality of life improvements + content additions that are mostly welcome too. Particularly the weapon switching.

So why do I prefer the original to the remake (!) …? Well, the devil is in the detail.

The general mechanics of the combat might seem broadly the same, perhaps an out-and-out improvement considering how much better the movement and aiming is, but there are some less-obvious yet fundamental changes...

Enemies are altogether more ‘grabby’ and don’t tend to get stunned in the same way when your shoot them. Also, there is a tendency for Leon to get stun-locked. This means close up enemy encounters can often become miserable when you get swarmed, whereas it tended to feel more strategic in the original - you had more of a chance to recover. Now, the remake is clearly more ‘realistic’ (?) and less ‘arcady’ in that regard… but what makes for a better game?

^^^ I’ve actually heard that it’s closer to the original game mechanics in the mercenaries mini-game, where the enemies get stunned in a more ‘gameplay friendly’ manner. Interesting… haven’t verified it myself though.

Separately, I’m not sure if it was because I was playing on hardcore/‘hard’, but there were several moments where it felt like I didn’t have a chance but to get hit / fail. Notable moments were the silly chase at the end of the village section and the very last section of the game in Saddler’s ‘last form’. Other bosses seemed to have very hard (impossible?) to avoid ‘grab attacks’. Not game-breaking, but I did find myself frustrated.

Aside from the core gameplay, there are some huge changes in ‘feel’ too. I don’t really buy (as journalists have said) that Leon is this wholly different character than he was before; he’s 90% the same. But a lot of the dialogue is gone. There was some ‘radio banter’ in the original, particularly in the castle, that gave a preamble to various events. Take the ‘right hand man’ fight. In the original, it was clear who was coming after you… in the remake, I don’t think they introduced him at all? In fact, the lack of back and forth between Leon and his oppressors made the game feel, relatively, a little sterile at times. Perhaps, the playful dialogue was not just ‘goofy action hero nonsense’, but helped build relations and sentiment between Leon and his oppressors. The castle-dude was the most memorable antagonist in the original and he was sadly reduced to being forgettable here.

A more nit-picky gripe: I’ve already mentioned the ‘right hand man’ but the ‘bugs’ also got an underwhelming intro too. That descent into the sewers in the original was amazing. I accept it’s easy to be nostalgic and remember the things that you perceive as being ‘worse’. For fair balance, the boat exploration and the section with the knights were obviously far more expanded and overall an improvement IMO. Although shooting that ‘gold knight’ when he was wobbling around all over the place… god dammit :o :D

Sadly, the island section was again the lesser portion - I was hoping for it to be brought up to the standards of the rest of the game. If there was part of the game that needed ‘work’, it was here and they clearly did put in a lot of work, but it was still the ‘weakest bit’.

Wrapping up, this is still an absolutely incredible game, but it just shows how delicate the ‘balance’ in the original was. Truly lightning in a bottle, that. Thankfully, we now have both versions to enjoy :)

I’m still not quite sure where I’d place it in my ‘rankings’ per se, but definitely one of the better entries despite my critique. Great stuff.

Dead keen. Bwahahaha :D

Interesting take. I don't remember enough of the original to make the comparison you made, but for me I just felt like I enjoyed this more based on I never had the urge to replay the original much, but can see myself coming back to this one now and then.

Go on, give us an updated list of your rankings! :)

For £7.50 I figured why not. Thought it would be £15 or something lol.

Kinda neat seeing/hearing Leon fighting his way out round the corner etc, and also the bell incident makes sense now

Also, forgot how much I missed the merchant :D

For those that uninstalled the base game previously like me and reinstalled now for the DLC, remember to install the REFramework mod and use DLSS/DLAA. the image is sharper, more stable than TAA/FSR. Shame they didn't update the upscaler support at all, the settings are all the same as the base game even though when you go into the DLC menu, it has its own GFX settings screen which basically takes you to the RE4 GFX screen anyway so what's the point of that I don't know.

Also, Ultrawide fix in REFramework for those on 21:9 is necessary as it enables 21:9 cutscenes too.

Let us know if it is any good, or just more of the same. Looked a bit samey to me so not in a rush for that whatsoever just yet.

I paused Starfield to play Cyberpunk PL, which I paused to smash Separate Ways in 1 hit on Saturday night (yes my Saturdays are EXCITING aren't they )

TLDR smashception?

Get it, it's wicked! 7 Chapters long and perfectly compliments what we wanted to know was going on in parallel time - well you know if you've done the original same expansion on the cube/ps2, but I digress!

EDIT: Oh another @TNA approved/endorsed thread ;)
iu

This one I definitely do

I’ve started the DLC and haven’t got far but have found it a bit lame in all honesty. There’s a soft emphasis on stealth kills, which aren’t fun, and also a reoccurring supernatural type enemy that just feels out of place. This is only the first 2 chapters, mind.

Not feeling a pull to revisit it but I may see it through…

I hope it is as good as everyone says and you are wrong!

:p:D

I will be on it in a week or two. Depends how long it takes to finish this Cyberpunk dlc. Not been hooked on like I was Starfield and been more busy so might take longer.

Playing the Separate Ways DLC now. Done 2 chapters. No bad. Enjoyable enough for the price.

But man they got the casting for Wesker and Ada's voice completely wrong. Kind of annoying they don't sound anything like the way they should.

Finished it last night. Enjoyed it for what it was. More of the same but with Ada. I enjoyed the laser room :)

Took about 4 hours. Worth the £6 for me.

Now I have Red Dead Redemption 2, Wasteland 3 and Ghostrunner. Need to decide which to play next. RDR2 is already half done from years ago, I think I will finish that off first while playing Ghostrunner on the side. Then move onto Wasteland 3 which seems to be a much longer game.

Need to also decide if I want to get the robocop game :p

I could also play Dead Space remake for a quid on gamepass, but I feel as I have games already on my list might as well wait for the latest Jedi game to go on the pass also, so I can play both for a quid instead
