Ok I have finally finished lapping my E6600 and after a little scare I have it up and running!!!

So whats changed?

Well previously with my Ninja & using the paste that comes with it my stock speed idle temp was 50 degrees

Now having lapped the cpu and got hold of AS5 paste & a tuniq 120 I got the following results...

Ninja Idle : 39 degrees
Tuniq Idle : 36 degrees

Ninja Load: 48 degrees
Tuniq Load: 43 degrees

Thats a pretty convincing case for both lapping & the Tuniq in my book!

I should mention that the tuniq fan is at 2000rpm and the Ninja was only doing 1300rpm & the Tuniq seems noisier

Don't ya think if the Ninja ran @ 2000rpm you would be getting the same results? Seems logical too me.

I'd second that theres a hella lot of difference between running 1200 and 2000 please rerun the test preferably using the same fan also (cant remember if they are the sane though)

Your temps still seems too high, My E6600 @3.3Ghz 1.4v idles 29-32C

Idle temps are pretty much irrelevant though, its load temps that matter.

I'm going to lap my 6300 tomorrow before I fit my new water cooling setup, should be interesting to see how much better it is.

so what's the difference between lapping and sanding? :)

Thats what lapping is, sanding down the base of your cooler or the IHS on the CPU to make it more flat. :)
