Return to Castle Wolfenstein MP players of Old

Ahhh yeah, put a lot of time into ET a while back. Still hear the voices in my head when I think back to it. "Congratulations, Herr Hauptmann!" "Vielen dank," "bitte sehr." (Yeah I played as a Nazi a lot of the time :) )

Was a cracking game. I even came to prefer it to CS, but none of my game-playing mates agreed :(

the Best FPS evar :D

You're not wrong there. ET was excellent too, but RTCW was in a league all of its own. I remember in one match strafe jumping backwards with the docs, about 10 ft from the radio with seconds to spare and the whole other team closing in. I nearly fell off my chair I was that excited!

BF, CS, CoD - they got nothing on RTCW.

Amen to that, CoD is really just the ******* child of RTCW. It's hardcore mode out of the box...friendly fire, no mini-map, no perks, no lame knife kills...just skills like aim and advanced movement (which admittedly I was never good at).

OMG I used to play this with workmates, we were a pretty efficient team.

"Fire in Ze Hole!"
"Hilfe! Medic!"
"Ze enemy iss veekened!" :D

Loved the minigun! :p

Sadly my gaming time is severely limited as my house currently resembles 1980s Beirut while work is being done.. :(

Was the first game I played online consistently. In this case I was practically obsessed :D

Even remember playing the MP demo or Beta pretty extensively before the full game came out.

Didn't play ET nearly as much. Think I'd moved to Counter-Strike by then or something.

RTCW is only £5.99 on Steam. Tempting since I never finished Single Player. Although I might have the CD (those ancient things! :p ) around SOMEWHERE.

I have played ET but not RTCW multiplayer.

I was always under the impression they were the same and ET was just a free version. I see thats not the case, am I missing out and should I pick up a cheap copy somewhere?

They were very similar. ET introduced the covert class, added the XP system, the ability to go prone, mines, rifle nades etc. I loved ET - played it at a decent level for years - but it was no RTCW. The maps weren't a patch on Wolf's, the shooting was a touched dumbed down, and it just wasn't as vicious or fast. Pretty much everything that was good about ET was lifted straight from RTCW, and everything it added detracted from the greatness. Still a bloody good game.

I'd gladly pay full price for an exact remake of RTCW with a current engine.

I remember when the first mp test of rtcw came out, and the tommygun was modelled so badly people actually thought it was some kind of weird shotgun. Second mp test they'd repalced it with a totally new (but wrong coloured) model. :)

This is a pic of the original model

On the mp map it looked darker and people thought it was a shotgun.

RTCW has never been touched, its the ultimate in online gaming experience.

The best game I have ever played.... I played from 2001 to 2008... somtimes spending as much as 14 straight hours playing... Played the Allstars (maxlives) server for the last few years. No other game comes close to the way in which RTCW delievered all action FPS multiplayer gaming. It had the perfect balance of class, great weapons, fast shooting action and the hitboxes where superb... why oh why did every other FPS game genre copy CoD and its gameplay and completely overlook Wolf...

I am specifically referring to the fact that with CoD you cant sprint and shoot, machine gun accuracy was rubbish so you just had servers full of snipers....

If you want to design a game in the future, install RTCW and set up a lan game with friends.. all that game really needs is an up to date engine and it would be rocking again!!

Wolfplayer!!
