I'm sure a lot of us here likes to listen to music while revising, I do. But when people ask me why, i can't explain why, and if were to turn it off i would find my self turning the music on again.

So my question here is what do all you people listen to while revising? And what kind of music do you listen to?? I try to listen to some classic or quintet's that i borrow from my mum. i don't like them, it just helps me revise imo.

Stuff that has flow/repitition.

Metal and Trance basically.

:edit: actually it's weird, if I listen to my normal music (muse etc) then I can't revise at all. Maybe it's the change in pace/crescendos that sort of throw my mind off.

Ideally, no music. You don't want top have recall cues related to music when you're going to be recalling the information in silence, however, I sometimes find this is rubbish and can listen jazz (extremely soft quiet) now and again and find I do OK. No music is ideal though.

Now if I could just get the noise of people sniffing and chewing sweets I'd be in.

Slightly OT but to do with recalling things with music.

Back in college i used to read Lord of the Rings on the bus whilst listening to Rancid (fell asleep most days too). Now whenever I hear certain rancid songs i always imaging Hobbits in the forest on their way to Rivendell.

I do the same with MMO's.

When I played RF Online all I listened to was Dragonforce. All I think of when hearing it is endless grinding :o

Same with Trivium and WoW.

Really concerned about them :(

Mars Volta, Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai?

If you want some more classical, try Pictures at an Exhibition on the piano and Vivaldi, Four Seasons.

forgot about mars volta :)

Anyway.. iv got some random stuff here that belongs to my mum,

HOLST-Philharmonia Orchestra- Simon Rattle
Elgar..... cba to write them all

Anyway. I tried muse and it doesnt work :) btw they're my fav band too zefan

Anything without words...

Same here. I tend to listen to instrumental guitar wizardry (Vai and Gilbert, mainly) when I'm revising. Anything with words, or really big riffs, makes me jump about singing along and playing air guitar. Not conducive to an insightful revision session. :o

Anything without words, soundtracks and stuff I find very good.

Yeah. Classical and jazz is supposed to be very good for you. I'd choose jazz, or triphop. Maybe bump it up to some d'n'b when you're getting desperate :p

Michael Nyman always works well for me. For non-classical it tends to be the likes of Zero 7, Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor etc, even the odd bit of Pink Floyd.
