A team of scientists based at the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden have made a "revolutionary" discovery about how hydrocarbon is formed, learning that animal and plant fossils are not necessary to form crude oil.

Hmm, the greens are gonna love this....

Our dependence on oil is so much that (imho) we can never replace it with any other form of energy, except for (maybe) nuclear.

It goes onto to say that this doesnt work for the type of oil needed for petrol :confused:

Though it should come in handy for making plastics and lubbing things up

I'm pretty "green", and I reckon this is great news. Gives us more time to develop alternative energy.

And since the oil in this article can't be used for petrol, I can't see why any green wouldn't be delighted!

Oh well, free plastics for everyone! But then I imagine the environmental impact of plastic is not just the oil used to make but how long it takes to degrade.

Where does it say the oil can't be used for petroleum products? All I can see is this:

most of the world's population will thrill to the idea that they will not have to give up their beloved automobiles. Not only will it be a much simpler matter to find and extract petroleum fuels, but, as Kutcherov's theories become reality, prices for natural gas and gasoline products should decrease.

That seems to state quite emphatically that not only does it apply to petroleum, but that it should see prices fall?

What they are trying to say then, is that.. with their new 'Found' research... discovering oil will be easier as they can now look in places thought to be baron of Oil?

This is not a new idea; the abiogenetic origin of oil theory has been kicking around for years. Very few serious earth scientists think there is a shred of credibility in it.

Hydrogen is a good alternative not on a massive scale yet but already in place in US (in 1 state in US).

Did some checks online after I saw in on Top Gear.
