just FYI

The North American and European servers for the free-to-play MMOG RF Online are being shut down.

Codemasters, which operates the game under license in North America and Europe, said it was unable to negotiate a new contract with Korean developers CCR to continue the game's operation. As a result, all American and European game servers will be shut down on the morning of November 10, 2008. The game will continue to operate normally until then, but the purchase of in-game credits is no longer being allowed, and new account creation is no longer available.

I'm surprised that it's been taken offline due to license renewal reasons rather than subscriber numbers, unless the move to F2P made it successful enough for them?

I just feel sorry for all the people who waited for ages for the big new content patch and game overhaul that had been finished for the Asian market and had been in translation for approximately a year or two for the US/EU market. Really sucks that people who had waited that long for it will never get to see it.

Asian MMOs frustrate the hell out of me - they're frequently very high quality in terms of graphics, music and general style, but they just can't seem to get away from the need for an ungodly grind. FFXI and Lineage were like this. FFXI in particular I really liked, but you'd really want nothing better to do with your time.
