Hey guys,

I really need to vent my anger now...

Tuesday I was going to buy tickets to see Ricky Gervais : Fame, his new stand up tour. Me and my girl friend really really wanted to go and see him live. I found out when the tickets were being released. 10am Tuesday.

10am at work tuesday, tried buying the tickets, there were a few problems with the ticket master site, returning errors e.t.c. due to the surge of people buying tickets. I manage to add two tickets to my basket, however something cropped up at work and couldn't proceed to the checkout straightway... any way when I come back, about 15-20 minutes later it said I timed out which is fair enough.
Went to buy them again but sold out :( I tried calling ticket master but confirmed that they were totally sold out.

Ive just gone on Fleebay and there must be 5 pages of tickets for the show!

This really is unfair as people are buying these just to sell them for stupid amounts of money, some people listing them the same day! Some going for £200. Tickets are £20. I know its not just this show, I'm sure there are many like this but just really gets to me.

It's a royal pain in the arse, people who actually want to go & see shows are having to put up with this ludicrous crap every time something's released. It's about time something was put in place to purge this, it's really annoying.

I'm with you all the way mate - it is annoying but alas it is the kind of world we live in which is basically a selfish one.
In an ideal world it would only be fans that get first bite of the cherry so to speak.
Once the fans had their chance to buy the tickets then they would be thrown open to everyone else but there is no way of doing that unfortunately.

The biggest rant I actually have is that constantly the web sites selling tickets are not geared up to do so and they frequently crash.
Seetickets.com & ticketmaster are usually the two who are selling tickets and every time it has been a big concert they have failed to keep their sites up.
Now sure, if demand is high then the sites are going to get hammered but these companies are not trying.
If there is about to be tickets being sold for one of the "big boys" then it should have it's own area of the website with all graphics, nice pictures turned off - plain text pages are all that are needed.

Me and my wife have been quite lucky over the past couple of years with regards a couple of the larger gigs.
We managed to see Kylie at Manchester - not the best tickets in the world (the ones I originally had in my "basket" at ticketmaster being a lot better than the ones I eventually paid for two hours after they had gone on sale).
We also got to go and see Robbie Williams at MK Bowl - however once again we failed miserably to get tickets the first time around.
We got some when the Wembley gigs had to be cancelled due to Wembley not being finished and the rearranged gigs were at MK - somehow my wife managed to get us Golden Circle tickets for that gig and it was amazing.

There is only one thing more annoying than not getting tickets to a gig you wanted to go to - seeing them for sale at EBay the same day.
I'm afraid that quite simply put I will never pay a tout for a ticket.
It is the only way - refuse to pay their inflated prices.
However as long as there is somebody out there willing to pay silly money for them they will continue.
On the rare occasion I've ended up with extra tickets for a gig I've put them on EBay with a "Buy It Now" price of basically the total price I paid (including booking fee, credit card surcharges etc) and a little for postage.
Unfortunately I cannot know for sure that it isn't a tout buying them from me, but at least I haven't lowered myself to their level.

ebay need to put a stop to this, it is so stupid.

I believe eBay will pull the auctions if they get it reported to them in time.

Didn't eBay recently nuke the inflated ticket auctions for that Princess Diana thing that went on sale?

I managed to get a pair at 10 on the nose. None of my other mates did. Ten minutes later they're on "buy it now" for £150. Ridiculous.

yep, I was on the phone from 9:50am till 10:50 where I eventually got though to be told it was sold out. Had the number on speed dial and must have phones thousands of times :(

Surely this could be stopped instantly by printing the purchasers name on the ticket? If one of your group isn't that person, you aren't coming in.

Or not having paper tickets, instead requiring you to bring your credit card along to the gig to redeem the tickets.

I'm sure some claim to do this, I've never had it checked though.

There is plenty they "could do" to make life difficult.
The idea of tickets having a name & address printed on and you having to turn up with a utility bill / bank statement from within the last month (on the night of the gig) could potentially stop a lot (Yes I know it will never stop all of it, but you cannot ever do so).

However it just means more work for the ticket printers, it means more work for the door staff on the night of the gig.
At the end of the day neither the stadium nor the door staff give a damn who is watching the gig.
We all know that in an ideal world it would be the fans - all the stadium really cares about is that all the tickets get sold so as they make the biggest profit possible.

Just don't make any plans for the night of the show and get on ebay the day before. There'll be some cheapo ones up for sale from genuine sellers who can't make the show.
