I am a big fan of Flatout which Bugbear created.

Is this a bad game or is it just not a "Ridge Racer" game which people are finding more annoying?

The latter for me. RR was never about smashing your way through traffic, it was all about reaction and skill (ie on-the-rails-drifting :p)to pass opponents. Plough through 3 cars and keep going at 100mph is just wrong when the game has Ridge Racer badge on it.

Horses for courses and all that kind of thing. I hadn't paid much attention to this, but I'm really interested now that I know Bugbear were at the helm.

Seen some vids on utube of pc gameplay, looks nice visually but looks boring and what i mean is the cars dont look that unique, the crash bits take you away from the driving in the game which would annoy me and the crashing well thats been done to death now so looks a bit daft to me its suppose to be a racing game not a flatout game or destruction derby game.

Visually tho looks great but thats all to me. Shame. Was hoping to like this enough to get for a decent old skool arcade racing with nice gfx. But instead just reminds me of burnout paradise which visually was nice but i just didnt like the gameplay at all.

Played this on 360 and it's fairly dire.

They've clearly aimed it at the new-gen of gamers who only care about what they can smash into and blow up.

I have played it too and definitely agree with you Norm.

I didn't see any evidence that this was a Ridge Racer game at all...except the name. Take the name away and it is just a bog standard racing game and not a very good one either.

Flatout Ultimate Carnage absolutely blows this away.

Should have been called FlatOut Paradise tbh :p

I loved the FlatOut games, I loved Burnout Paradise, so this looks like a winner in my eyes. I can see why RR fans aren't that overjoyed, but an updated (Flat/Burn)Out is all I'm after!

*edit*

£30 and no demo, wtf. Yeah, I'll be waiting for it to be on sale.

Anyone still looking to buy this ignore the paid for reviews like The Edge & read the official Steam forums as not everyone is a happy bunny due to:

16:9 forced Aspect Ratio only stretched above or below a 16:9 resolution (which is shocking in this day & age).

No customisable controls & poor wheel support

Missing gfx options for:
AA
Vertical Sync
Ansiotropic Filtering
Shader / Texture / Shadow detail

1.5Gb HD install

Sounds like a very cheap & nasty port probably as the publisher did not want to pay for any polish on PC as sales expectations are low

This runs pretty awful with a GTX 680 for me. Getting quite a bit of lagging, It all seems ok then it just lags like mad and then catches up. This is on single player..?

Yep as i peek at the cough cough places i do indeed see it is just a 1.5gb install/dl lol. Wow.

I mean most decent games these days are in the region of 4-13gb. Most car games i know of are in the region of 3-7 or maybe 8 gb maybe more i duno. Tho truth be told we shouldnt really judge game quality based on install/dl size but typically the bigger the budget the bigger the dl/install is and the top AAA games generally use that rule of thumb. Tho there are some nice low file size games out there but they are usually indie games.

When it comes to Steam forums, go to ANY recently released game section and you will mostly find people with issues with the game. I'm not saying the issues you mentioned don't exist, just that the Steam forums are usually the worst place to look for feedback.

The game is definitely polarizing. A lot of reviews between 8 and 9, but also quite a few as low as 4-5.

I just cant get over how its not a Ridge Racer at all:(

It's like making a Diablo3 game by putting Diablo3 badge onto Sims3 game and calling it done!
Where is krazi mad racing skillz atmoshpere where you want to overtake and and not smash?! Where are the insane consecutive powerslides at 150mph? And in which way does smashing cars up relate to Ridge Racer universe?!!
