8.0 Presentation
The city overview looks cool and is easy to use, and the world itself has style. Repeated elements annoy and the intro cutscene is ridiclous, however.

8.5 Graphics
The sensation of speed is excellent, the destructibility adds greatly to the spectacle and the world looks great. Car damage modeling is average, however, and the lighting blur can be a bit much too.

8.5 Sound
While it's annoying that you can't set up playlists, the mix of contemporary dance music and older Ridge Racer tracks works well. Avin' it Ibeeefa!

8.5 Gameplay
The Domination events are the clear stand-out, but each race type has its charms, and the handling mechanics are excellent. Love the focus on high scores too.

8.0 Lasting Appeal
There's a fair bit of meat to Shatter Bay and the game's online offering, but the samey environments will eventually wear on players.

OVERALL = 8.5 Great /10

It's ok nothing special around a 5-6/10 from me. It gets a bit meh after a couple of hours and the frame rate issues are almost game ruining.

My GTX480 gets a constant 60FPS no matter what is on screen so your GTX680 should eat it for breakfast and spit it out. ( Not a bad thing actually :p )

Probably once the drivers mature more you should be ok but for the record I am using the latest WHQL drivers.

This game was originally a Flatout sequel Namco asked Bugbear to make it into a Ridge Racer title thats why its underwhelming as its neither just stuck inbetween due to the change of direction when Namco came along to Bugbear with some money to buy this & rebrand

Cannot find the article now but there was something else which went more indepth about the change of direction.......

^^^^^^

I guess ridge racer was in some serious need of a change of direction as even i who is a bit of a ridge racer fan from the old days,
would say it be pretty boring & simple if it only had a few new tracks and the same drift handling and nothing else new..

Best gaming experience ever was seeing ridge racer on a mates imported japanese PS1 (think he paid about £500 for it with RR!)- such a huge step up frm anything i'd seen before. Mastering the drifting with the devil /angel car... awesome gaming

edit- just watched the video on steam- way too much smashing through buildings. I'd buy it if it ws the old school pure racing skill drift fest- smash into a building and you forget getting that extra second you need for best time- that's what RR shoud be about

Been playing it this week, but have given up after around 4-5hrs. Dominated half the zones, another two nearly done, and the final two with a bit of work still to do. So probably not a million miles away from completion but I'm not motivated to continue:

+Graphically decent with a steady 120fps - Bugbear really do make fantastic engines
+Different cars drive differently

-Very repetitive, most of the tracks look and feel similar aside from time attack (although the city sharing thing does look pretty neat)
-Power boost mechanic gets dull quickly
-Not convinced by the handling
-Sound effects are really stupid, even when you are at top speed if you keep the accelerator held down you still hear the car revs increasing and then shifting up a gear ad infinitum, whereas most games you can hear yourself redlining.
-Progress is kinda weird, there was one city I had dominated (3 stars) on 6 races and still hadn't garnered enough points to attempt the 7th race, I had to redo one to try and get more 'bonus' points. I think they should scale the requirements down a bit or bias it more in favour of finishing position.

Maybe the issue overall is that the game is Flatout trying to be Ridge Racer and in the end comes up short on both fronts.
