hello folks i have ordered my 2900XT 512 and i am expecting it tommorow , however i would like to ask few questions to you according it !
1.Shall I directly install new Drivers available from Ati.com ? Or should I intall the pack i got on my CD anyway's ?(and the best drivers atm are ? )
2.Any Special recomendations for Ati 2900XT(any secerets, tips available from you Ati2900XT owners )?

cheers

ATI's latest official drivers are supposed to be much faster than the older ones. I wouldnt know because ive only had my 2900 a week or so so have been running on them. They seem very stable and quick though. If you are going to be playing Bioshock you will need to download the hotfix available on the ATI website to fix a few bugs and make it a bit quicker. Hope this helps :)

1. From ati.amd.com is best.
2:
Don't panic if you're PC BSOD's, the drivers aren't super stable.
It does run hot under full load, don't panic if you see 85c - 90c.
The 2900XT is loud past 31% fan speed.
Don't bother with Catalyst Control Center, it's not worth installing.
ATI Tray Tools can cause blue screens in it's latest build with a 2900XT that I've seen.
The card works fine with 2x 6 pin connectors, it doesn't need 1x 6 pin and 1x 8 pin
ATI's newest drivers have caused some peoples 2900XT's to raise 10c - 15c on idle temps (7.8's), 7.7's dont do that
Make sure you get the BioShock DX10 hotfix from support.amd.com

Hi - just got mine yesterday!

Get the latest Cats (7.8) from the ATI website and if you want to run Bioshock then get the Bioshock hotfix too

Apart from that, it's pretty much plug & play! Don't forget to plug in both 6-pin connectors on the board if you don't have an 8-pin connector

Thanks you very much for umbelievable fast answers, really apppreciate it a lot ! Found very useful info in less than a minute :)
I will let ya know how i am getting on with it tomorow !
cheers

No probs. ATI has been bashed recently quite a bit for the 2900 series but ive found them to be very decent. Enjoy :D

Can use either, 1x 6x Pin + 1x 8x Pin, or 2x 6x Pins, the 8x Pin is only required to ungrey the Overdrive tab in the CAT drivers so you can use it to overclock, but you can overclock fine with 2x 6x Pins, as you can use ATi Tool instead. :)

thanks , intalling my Vista and 2900XT now :D

any more for any more? keep the tips coming, I should get mine tomorrow. :D

Will definitely be using the ATi hotfix as bioshock should be here as well. running XP x64 btw.

Fitted mine today :D

And yes it is v.noisy and hot ! Shame ATT doesn't work properly with it, will have a play with AT to see if I can do something with the fan speeds.

Having fun playing with it though.
