Mike Gregory has lost his brave battle against illness
Former Great Britain captain Mike Gregory has died after a four-year battle with a neurological disease, a family spokesman has announced.

Gregory, who was just 43-years-old, had been suffering from a form of motor neurone disease.

In 2004, the illness forced Gregory to leave his job as Wigan coach.

43 no age to go, RIP would have been a great manager. I can remember him leaving the Wigan job because of being ill then the next time I saw him he was in a wheel chair and had lost all his muscle. :(:(

I've not seen or spoken to Mike since his last coaching role at the Challenge Cup final but know that i'll miss him. It's a sad day for Rugby League fans especially those from Wigan and Warrington. He was a true gent who was a great player (part of the good times at the Wire with teammates such as Andy Gregory, Kevin Tamati, Les Boyd etc) and would always have time for even the most irritating of young lads (me) on match days or that snuck into the players lounge after the match.

RIP
