Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots - anything better?

I've been playing Rise of Patriots for years. Is there anything better out there but similar kind of style? Are they gonna do an upgrade?

Loved that game but the genre seems to have been stale for years, I don't think there's any title that can compare to the span you have in RoN, from fighting with sticks to dropping ICBM's Now I want to install it again.
