Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC in early 2016

I quite liked the 2013 version, will wait for the PC version.

Also the probable reason as to why Microsoft went after TR 2015 is Uncharted 4. Till the delays of course.

It was possible to become suddenly very, very stuck in the originals when a puzzle seemed unsolvable. Managing to work it out - after previously being clueless - was stupendously satisfying, something I don't think they've managed to replicate in the latest ones. They were masterpieces of design, and if you didn't really think about things you would just be stuck and that was that.

Inb4 "yeah this tomb raider is different doe" - yeah I get that. I just think it's a shame some of the heart of the originals is lost.

Yeah I got stuck a lot on the original games. I was in school at the time and it was my first game I had on my new PS1. Also the days before I had the internet, so if I got stuck there was no googling for a walkthrough on Youtube!

The new TR game I didn't even need to look at a walkthrough. IIRC it even highlights where you need to jump or puzzle pieces that need to be interacted with :(.

Indeed...jump here...puzzle piece here blah blah, then a cutscene leading into a QTE, snooze fest. May as well watch the films instead.

A Tomb Raider game in a true open world environment is what is needed and would instantly get my cash.

That would be great. Also the odd Tomb to raid wouldn't go amiss :p.

There were a few things I liked a lot in the new TR game. The gfx were great, along with a much improved Lara model. Also liked the bow a lot, was good fun using it for a stealthy approach. The combat in the original was a little lacking, I seem to remember just jumping around while auto locked onto the target. If they combined this with some of the good stuff from the original games it would be an amazing game.

Outside of open world RPGs no game needs a walkthrough, and even then you're just spoiling it for yourself.

Saw a video of some footage recently - doesn't look like they've learnt RE QTEs though maybe it will be different on PC but meh think I'm gonna join the people not buying it on principle due to the exclusive thing - shame enjoyed the 2013 game when the QTEs weren't getting in the way.

So is this going to be another can't buy it on steam situation...
Nope its on Steam & Win 10 store at the same time but I think it maybe DX12 only which = Win 10 exclusive

No reason of course for that unless MS are helping on the port (unlikely) but Gears Of War is also Win 10 only so is the new Fable game so perhaps this is MS strategy hold back DX12 for Win 10 only as they do not plan to backport to Win 7/8!

I suspect this will launch on Win 10 only then when sales are poor it will by a miracle of computer PC porting science become available on Win7/8

Thanks, good news about steam.

Is Win 10 only a terrible thing? I get that maybe people don't want to be forced onto that platform, but with it being free and assuming there aren't big problems I've not heard about then is there any reason not to upgrade?

Considering Windows 10 will be a free upgrade to the vast majority of people, why is this an issue?

I certainly won't be hurrying to upgrade - unless there are fairly big upgrades coming in future builds - aesthetically it looks ugly and amateurish compared to my Windows 7 install, the start menu is very buggy (though could be they are purposely leaving bugs in until release for debug reasons), clunky and desktop start menu functionality restricted by Windows Phone, etc. considerations.

At best I'd dual boot for certain games but that sucks to have to mess about with.

My point was that older games were a lot harder as they dont hold your hand and highlight where to jump or give tips if you can't figure it out in 20 seconds. When I played puzzle/adventure games as a kid like TR and Broken Sword i'd sometimes be stuck on a certain part for hours or even days. Which as Zefan said gives you a massive sense of achievement when you finally figure it out. You don't get that in modern games when the ledge you need to jump to starts flashing orange etc.

Unless it was actually a clever puzzle I've never got a sense of achievement from figuring out some random/obscure action, sequence, etc. needed to progress in a game - usually just give up on a game if I'm spending hours on the same section over and over by trial and error with no real clues to work off.

Same for me really, I gave up on the first two Tomb Raider games and didn't play any others until the latest one which I loved. I've no interest in wandering around for days not knowing how to progress, no fun in that for me. Though I also agree there is no place in any games for QT events, but that wasn't enough to spoil it for me.

We all enjoy different things though, its a real shame for fans of the previous games.

Its one of the things I liked about dishonored - some of the harder puzzles were actually clever rather than obscure (and mostly didn't stop you progressing the main game).

Not sure whether to Xbox this or wait, if it comes out in January I'll wait but "early 2016" could mean end of March. But it will look so much better on the PC maxed in 4K G-Sync goodness.

Enjoyed TR2013 so will most likely pick this up on PC. The QTEs were annoying, that parachute bit through forest took me about 30 attempts for some reason.

I do miss the originals though, TR1 was my first PS1 game and what a game it was.

I bought my matrox mystique just to play TR1. I'm really looking forward to this game as I really enjoyed TR2013.
