What is a UTP?

Im looking for a 30m thernet cable and this seems to pop up all the time, what is a UTP cable or RJ-630?

I Need it to stretch from my kitchen to my bathroom, having to put it tightly against the walls and up to my room, its going to be a mission and im pretty sure 30 will do it, but i just need to know what the UTP is, i think its something to do with the thickness for longer distances...

Am i right?

Unshielded Twisted Pair.

It means that the cables inside are twisted together in pairs. There is no additional shielding around the conductors.

You need a length of cable with an RJ-45 plug at each end. Cheaper to make your own but tricky as a special tool is normally needed. Can be bought ready made in various lengths. Cable that makes up the lead may well be described ast CAT5 or CAT6, either will do. Other issues *may* arise depending on what you intend to plug into each end of the cable.
