RMA 1900 xtx for a 8800GTS

hi guys
I have RMA'ed my 1900 XTX 512 over a month ago and the company have just got back to me and have offered to swap my saphire 1900xtx 512mb for a 8800gts xt 320mb.

I know the 8800 is a better gpu but will that make up for the ram loss when comparing it to the 1900xtx for a 22" screen running games?

I am thinking of accepting this but am a bit wary as the first time they tryed to offer me a 7800gs for it which i thought was a joke and opted for a replacement 1900xtx which took 3 weeks when i got that it was card only (i sent the whole retail box back) in a box loose which i tryed and was faulty as well and now after a month after returning that by next day they contact me to offer me this.

Its lot faster, but a 640mb would be better at that res tbh.

don;t hesitate, get the 320gts, then sell it on and buy a x1900xtx 512mb on members market for like 80 quid. you make serious profit in the process.

but if i were you id take the 8800gts and keep my mouth shut before they change their mind and find another x1900xtx in the warehouse.

I assume thats a 'standard' 22 inch LCD , IE 1680x1050... The 320meg GTS should be ok for that. If you had a 1920x1200 24inch panel then no, the 320 isnt enough memory to enable all the eye candy.

If I was in your position, I would ask if they would offer you an 'upgrade' to 640meg, if you payed a bit of money.

I would really, really try and get the 8800GTS 640 version.

Say, im not happy at all with the card you are offering me. I have been waiting over 3 months now. Something like that.

Just take the 320 and be happy. It will be faster even with less ram most of the time, you can always sell and buy whatever. Either way you should be grateful

How old was the xtx btw?

just take it, as said before even if the 1900xtx 512 is faster somehow you can just sell the gts 320 and buy a 1900xtx 512 and make money.

The 320 is fine mate even at 1920x1200. I run all the lastest games at 1920x1200 with no problem including

Bioshock ( Full Detail ),
GRAW2 ( Full, Medium Textures ),
Vega's (Full, 1600x1200 )
Stalker some settings down a tad, cant remember.

The GTS 320 is in a different league to your X1900.

Ask for a 2900XT 512MB. Say any warranty card should be like for like. 512MB = 512MB.

Or do what Cyber-mav said and make some wonga.

Make sure the GTS will fit your case first before accepting.

No need, if it doesnt fit just sell it and buy whatever. 'Please can I have a gfx card half the worth of that one because it might not fit my case' no

I have asked if i could pay the extra for the 640mb.

I think it should fit in the case it is a Xclio windtunnel but i will check with my gtx later. i asume that the gts has the cables in the same stupid place on the side of the card?

the 320mb card will still be much faster. just because there's a deficit next to a 640mb card at high resolutions, doesnt mean its not worth the taking. its a LOT faster than an x1900.

lucky guy. i can quite happily stress my gtx out if i ramp up the fsaa.

It will fit, GTS is the same length as his x1900, and the PCI-E connector is in the same place, only the GTX needs 2x of em, and has the connectors on the side.

Great upgrade. But try and haggle for the 640MB version anyway. Tell them you are not happy about getting a card with less memory.

Also, how much did you pay for the XTX? You could use the price to argue want the 640, or a refund.
