As far as i'm concerned now, the wheels was poorly built which has caused all of the spokes to become untensioned and yes i did tell them that the some of the spokes felt a bit looser than my previous wheel. Without going out and spending £60 on a spoken tension meter, is the onus on me to make sure that the goods supplied were as they should have been, without actually having the insight or understanding to confirm?

Anyway, Merlin Cycles have just reiterated their stance, no refund on the derailleur or cleats. I'll wait for the refund to hit my account and then fire off the legalities and speak with my credit card company about getting a refund for the remaining. My first (and last order) with Merlin cycles.
See if you can get them to confirm that any damage caused by faulty goods supplied by them is not covered. I imagine getting that from them would be pretty much crucifying themselves to any 'no-win, no-fee' style 'ambulance chasers' if you wanted to try that route.

If you bought on credit card I'd call them immediately - the initial payment might not have even cleared in their account and the card company can pull it. I've heard of card companies even pulling payments I'd consider cleared in peoples accounts (happened to us at work!).

I'd then take to social media and present all the facts (with their responses) on things like their Facebook page, Twitter feed and even on their shop rating (on Google maps) as that's a PITA to get removed! ;)

EDIT: ROFL
Wheel building is an art. Our resident artist Tony is the best in the business. Tony builds wheels. It's the only thing that Tony does. Born to build wheels. Which is just as well because our wheels are in such demand that it's a full-time occupation keeping on top of orders. When you're buying hand built wheels from us, you're buying a pair of Tony's creations.
Source. Sounds like Tony needs to retire!
Just emailed them about the Windslam Long Sleeve jersey... my rear pocket has become unthreaded from the top band that holds it tight. Quite disappointed as that's only lasted about 5 months and maybe 10 rides. It's no longer available and nothing else is comparable for the same price - £19.
This jersey but with long sleeves? I've got one in (probably) Large in White/Black I don't use as I prefer more of a collar.

Yep that's the one though I'm a medium. It is a bit of a weird jersey because of the collar and the very thin arm materials so not really sure I want another one anyway. It was okay for today's weather as I had a long sleeve baselayer below it too but back when it was even colder I was finding I needed arm warmers as well.

Yeah I find mine too warm on the body (needs some kinda venting or break in the windproofing) but then too cold on the shoulders/sleeves and lack of collar. Don't generally think we get warm enough windy weather in the UK that's windy enough to need protection from without anything on arms/shoulders. I find a windproof gilet over a normal jersey a better option - looser fit around the body so it's less of sweat box.

Actually that's one item I do need to get, a gilet, so might use the £19 for that.

I don't mind the cold too much. Or the wind. Or the rain.

Just one at once, and in that order of preference!

Not a fan of the wet at all really unless it is properly raining biblically, then it's OK, in not sure why I prefer this, perhaps because you are guaranteed to get wet and know what the road is going to be like.

May have got home from work early and may have gone out for a ride, where it managed to snow, hail, sleet, rain, have shed loads of wind and then blissful sunshine within 5 minutes of each other. Thought nah it's too warm to try out my new sportful jacket, luckily had the gabba on! There is no proof of this said theoretical ride :P

Legs are knackered so I took it easy on the way home...and it sounds like I avoided the worst of the weather thankfully.

Hopefully tomorrow it'll pick up as I'm going to have to get back on doing some actual miles then.

They're well recommended, they're any easy way to make any kit choice really versatile!

I've currently got 2 and considering a 3rd...
  1. DHB 'whisp' - highviz and slightly waterproof, very thin and perfect with any kit I wear commuting (due to high-viz and a little wind/rain protection). This is the replacement, but seems more expensive and thicker.
  2. Club kit (Santini) - very windproof with a mesh rear, no overheating issues even with amazing front wind protection. Stupidly high priced (£55!) but I'm happy with it.
  3. Possible 3rd would be a Roubaix/windslam type for colder riding but I've got several roubaix jerseys currently I can't justify it!:o

I agree, gilet's are great. I splashed out on a Fawesome (a Gabba vest thing) and it's insanely nice. Maybe a bit expensive though.

Argh when will the weather improve...

I've got 6 weeks of overseas work booked so it will be glorious those weeks...

What can people recommend for more casual (normal) style cycling clothes for when they want to spend the day out without being in bibs all day?

DHB do what basically amounts to a boxer short with a pad so you can wear pretty much any trousers you like - though i'd not recommend it for going flat out

Didn't he buy off the shelf Ultegras?

This weather?? There's frost on my car right now, like wth.

Yep, frosty in the shade here as well. Nice and bright, just cold

I changed up my route in a bit this morning, and did about 13 miles instead of the usual 11 1/2. The junctions were better, though, and it had some long fast stretches so it took about the same time as usual.
