Generally speaking when you're leading out a group they will feel like they are getting held up because of the draft effect making their progress easier.

Conversely you can feel pressure to go harder when you're on the front because you know in your head that it's supposed to be harder on the front so you go over the top making it harder. If you were doing 17 when you were following then there's no need to get on the front and try to push 19.

Goodluck & looking forward to how they (and you) cope with 4+ hours in the saddle! ;)

Sub 3 hours ;)

No problems, I'd say they are 9/10th of the pro team for 1/2 the cost. See how they last long term, but all my other Rapha kit shows almost no sign of wear.

Highly recommended!

Yeah I tried to keep a steady pace hard to judge though as I tended to get up front when we hit a heavy head wind. We also had an unexperienced rider with no cycle computer end up at front for quite a bit. With nothing to judge his speed he ended up smashing it a bit so one of my turns was simply to reign him in a bit :D He did well though, normally he averages 14.5 mph and we averaged 15.6 all in with 25 mph+ headwinds at times.

We should have quite a nice pace for tackling the 100 as personally I've got no time goal in mind, I simply want to make it round without it feeling like too much of an ordeal!

Probably a lot safer than some of the narrow Cheshire roads and the idiots in Range Rovers that frequent them though! You could always take the next exit of the roundabout and go back via Cheadle, only a tiny detour. I've got a 10 in the afternoon otherwise I'd be tempted out.

True enough. I just hate that particular bit of the A34 (and in fact, most of it :p).

Yeah, shame you're not out. Hopefully I'll keep on going along to their rides so we'll catch each other out sometime.

...and there's always the 300 in June ;)

Anyone got plans to ride the Cambridge 100 tomorrow? It's not the most popular of events, but it's quite a nice route. Weather looks like it should be nice this year as well - better than last year at least when my Garmin 705 filled with water because it was raining so hard! :o

I'm feeling a lot fitter this year, down from 98kg+ to 87kg, which means I now weigh less fully kitted out combined with my bike than I weighed without my bike and no kit about 4 months ago :D Also smashed one of my long term targets a couple of weeks ago and managed a 50 mile solo ride at 20mph average :D:D

nooooo, wake up early to do a new training ride and feeling run down. Is it worth the risk when potentially a bit ill?

Yeah, for your first imperial I'd say the main thing is just finishing! If I do L-C-L this year I'll be aiming for under 6 1/4 hours moving time, which would be 16mph which is my best speed for a flat metric century, so that's quite a stretching target given that L-C-L has a couple of hilly sections.

I went out this morning to do 20odd including a 10 mile TT type segment. I was going great guns for the first half of it but had nothing left for the second half. It probably didn't help that I'm starting with a sore throat and well short on sleep!

But yeah, don't go out if you're properly cold-y. It's just not worth it.

Same here, I need to get out & get a few miles in, need around 1000ft of assent to complete this month's Strava challenge, but I just don't feel like it today.

Yearly mileage target is slipping as well, only done 1350 miles so far this year.

Yeah 3 day weekend so 2 more days to get better for :)

Swapped out the stock Cannondale bars for a set of deda zero 100. The curve on them suits me way better and makes it easier to get to the brakes in the drops. Did the bar wrap the pro way. So much faster.

Congrats! That's some progress! Even 50 mile flat (assuming it wasn't!) at 20mph is quite an achievement.
I'll take a look at the Cambridge route... only sportive planned this year so far is the Velothon Wales and that'll be my first sportive. Why isn't the Cambridge event popular?

Edit: Oh. Didn't realise you wrote tomorrow! I might have been tempted but no chance getting there for 7am at this short notice.

Depends on level of illness I'd say. Perhaps go for a short loop to test if not sure. I've been suffering a cold the last few days so just went for a short ride this morning to test the water at 20-30bpm less than usual. Didn't feel too bad so think I'll go for another short ride later.
