Road Cycling

Yeah i get that, although i mainly have issues due to being ~190cm and all cycling tops being really short on me!

I'm 188cm and I struggle with the straps on loads of bib shorts. I wear a medium and I am not the usual cycling build. 32" waist and 42" chest so when I size the bibs correctly they seem to assume I am much shorter. Assos mille GT are just about OK but they are borderline.

I would have thought height was a better indicator of bib short size? I'm about 193cm, about 34"/35" and 42"/44", so not wildly different to you. I wear XL. Surely you should be ordering L?

Think chest size is least important with bibs. Siroko size calculator was spot on for me so worth having a look to see what they suggest. I usually find that straps are too tight even XL and I’m only 177cm. But anything smaller than L and my legs don’t fit.

They give sizing usually based on hip and waist sizing.

Its more that if you have a thin waist, larger chest than usual and then are tall to boot, all of these take up strap length. The thin waist means you're buying either loose fitting bibs or ones that are designed for smaller people and then the chest and height means those smaller sizes straps have a lot more distance to cover.

I’m 191 and 33-34inch waist. I found the endura pro SL fit well in medium for my height without being too tight. I think the line has been replaced with a slightly different version now though.

I guess what I'm saying is, don't believe that. You're basically buying Mediums and saying 'these aren't big enough', no? Have you tried Large? Again, it sounds like we're similar body shape and I've never had loose bibs...

Yes, I have bought large before and they haven't been tight enough in the legs, hip and waist and they still weren't much better on the strap length. I have a long torso and short legs for my height which probably isn't helping.

I've just ordered a pair of Assos Equipe R Spring Fall Bib Shorts in medium and these are their racier fit so I will see if there is any difference between these and the assos mille gt sizing wise. Will just return them if they aren't right.

Part of the problem I have with bib short is that you can't really tell how you like them until you ride a decent ride with them. By that stage I don't think they will want them back wot with being all drenched in ball sweat!

it's such a hit and miss with cycle clothing! I measured my self recently and my quads are 25" which explains why XL feels snug but I'm short and it seems like cycle clothing goes up in length when it goes up size. Wish we had some brands doing XL short for example or XL long but not found anything yet that's decent price(£80/bib)

as said, siroko XL bibs fit me quite well so I'll stick with those now and stop experimenting and dealing with returns.

I'm 172cm tall, 31-32" waist generally wear a 32" leg jeans (old school measurements). I've got 37" (small!) chest and 42" (big!) hips... I've got shorter legs for my height and torso longish... Guess I'm a 'pear' body shape lol. Generally wearing small t-shirts and jumpers...

Some sizes (Assos) will give you hip sizes so well worth checking, certainly for most of my fit issues tend to be hip/quad and not waist/chest... @grudas quads have an inch on mine, which are around 24" so always found them fairly big, but not many shorts do a 'thigh size'! Smaller quads I'd be in mediums. I've never had issues with straps being tight, yes the more solid ones can be slightly awkward to get on, once they're on I guess my narrower chest and shoulders I never have problems.

Probably why in my preferred stretchy short (Rapha Core) I can fit in both a Medium or a Large (prefer medium on the turbo as keeps pad in position - Large outdoors is more comfortable in & out of the saddle, but wet they do feel baggy). In a less stretchy short I'm generally a Large (Endura Pro SL, Rapha Pro Team Shadow, Assos Mille C2 & Sportful Fiandre) and likely wouldn't fit a Medium (wouldn't bother trying). Sizing in some brands fit me better, usually because of my quads rather than anything else. The Endura I could try an XL as they're very snug, almost uncomfortably. The Assos as well are pretty tight but not uncomfortable. I've found the same with Castelli, actually needing to size to XL in some shorts (Omloop) to even get them on, when other more fitted Pro ones (Progetto I'm a Large) are ok. 3 pairs of my Sportful Fiandre 'NoRain' are XL and they're not that big a fit (although Large is better!)

Let me know how you find them, especially the sizing compared to the Mille GT (which I've got a pair of and like). I came close to putting an order on some Spring/Fall but with another outstanding order on the Whoop deal ones didn't want any more expense this month...!

I do have 3 Specialized Power saddles to shift , when I do will spend it on some more winter shorts.
