ELEMNT here, had it around 20 months (since the start of 2017). Around 500 hours, 8000 miles in 1200 rides and it's going strong. A few minor issues but only lost part of a ride once (battery ran flat), have had it freeze a couple of times but it generally sorts itself out and doesn't lose any of the ride. Have only needed to do a hard reset on it 2 maybe 3 times. My problems are only generally when following a course on it, not usual day-to-day commuting. Battery life is still great, features too and constant updates for it still (although the last year or so they're generally fixes rather than new features).

Considering I had a Garmin Edge 810 that barely lasted over a year, with around 6 months of crashing, generally getting more buggy and causing more problems as time went on, I'm 100% a convert.

The ELEMNT might be quite chunky/'ugly' and without a colour touchscreen missing some of the features of the Garmins - but I'll take a reliable unit I can depend on with longer battery life and very little fiddling required any day of the week.

Sounds good then!

To be fair, my Edge 500 has been fine since I got it. It has only been the last few weeks where it has being a pain in the ass.

So I factory reset it last night, connected all my sensors and sorted out my display items. It seemed to record fine all the way to work this morning. I saved the ride once I got to work by pressing and holding reset, but no. No we won't save the ride, we'll just delete it this time. Oh and, we'll also reset all of your settings and screen options to default. RAGE!!

The Rapha one's shall make you look a right knobber regardless of what they make your actual knobber look like anywayz.

:p

/cameltoe crew signing in. Totally agree, but standing admiring my manhood stood up straight in cycling shorts is not a regular past time of mine. I care more about how they ride! ;)

heh, I think all the rapha kit is going back, tried some tops and gilet as well but sizing just didn't fit me. Medium Gillet was sized for about an XL. The M tops are really short on torso.

Assos and Rapha bib pads feel pretty close to each other, maybe rapha is like 1 mm more.

had some bibs delivered today but not sure what to make of them. The rapha core make me look like I've got nothing down there but a camel toe, the asos t equipe evo are the oposite, make me look like a pornstar with it's shaped area. Random pics off internet, not me.

I bought my first pair of Rapha classic 2 bibs in the sale month or so back to try out as my 2 pairs of castelli bibs were giving me a bit grief... The Rapha bibs are just so comfortable and are now my go-to bibs for long rides.

I've used both bluemels and chromoplastics on the same bike after crash damaging a chromoplastic.

Much of a muchness really although the bluemels are slightly easier to get a nice smooth curve on

I received a delivery of their Classic Gilet yesterday in size S. It fit okay around the chest and looked okay whilst stood up. But once I got into the "cycling" position you could easily fit a coffee mug sized object between the gilet and my back, creating a large flappy bit of fabric. I've returned it today and requested an X-Small, but I'm not holing out much hope, I don't think one size decrease will remove the huge flappy bit, but we'll see.

There were available at £66 in yellow in the current sale. All OOS now though obviously. :(

Pretty much where I got to with my 810. Working mostly ok then the odd bug snuck in, then some of the methods to avoid whatever bug just become 'the way to do it', then other things break. Mine started with the occasional crash when following a route, then problems with maps, then would hang whenever following a route on a map, losing the ride, then would randomly crash/freeze even not following a route and lose the ride. Around the same time the BT transfer to android app started hanging, would only BT sync on restart, then BT connection would hang the device unless I turned BT on/off on my handset when required. Did a firmware reset/update/rollback and none of it made a difference. Actually made the device worse, it will now freeze within 2 minutes of being powered on, not even using GPS, maps or recording an activity. Have reset/restored firmware and rolled back multiple times.

Had the 810 middle of 2015, so around the start of 2017 it became a £230 paperweight at the grand old age of 18 months.

Suffice to say when the ELEMNT froze when on course/mapping the first time I had kittens! It's done it only a couple of times and hasn't got any worse (like the Garmin). Touch wood.

There are differences between different styles of jersey from Rapha. The older ones I have (Trade Team jersey & Canyon) are quite long in the torso and a little more fitted, although the fabric does bunch on me in the riding position and can flap on the rear of my shoulders/neck when getting aero. The newer jerseys I have (Sky & Core) are wider torso, yet more fitted shoulders and usual length. They don't bunch on me, but are a totally different fabric. The couple of times (done it twice now!) I've ordered Rapha gilets they've always sized up a fair amount larger than the medium jerseys and been fairly long torso (and have returned them). Length isn't an issue but having loads of bunching at the front/gut and then flapping at the shoulders is a no-no. Castelli gilets fit me far better! I did try a Brevet gilet in Small with a medium jersey and it still wasn't a good fit - lots of fabric around the shoulders flapping, even though I could barely get the zip done up!

I was eyeing up PDW Full Metals in black.
PDW's are about the only thing I would replace my Specialized PnP with. They feel similar weight and similar firm fit when I've seen them (only twice and both silver).

They where OOS of normal sizes within a day of the sale. When I looked mid/late last week there was only XS left.

Is the BC code generation for Evans always so slow? Been waiting an hour now!
Has always taken an age the times I've used it! Usually gave up until the next day lol

I know most of you probably realise this, but training with power is amazing. Since getting my Vectors I feel like every time I go out on my own (so not a club run) I can focus on hitting threshold intervals. I've been doing this for a few weeks now and I can already feel the difference on club rides. I'm also smashing PBs on all the 6min + hills in the area because I can have some actual numbers to pace myself with.

I'm fully converted to power meters.

I find the biggest benefit is sometimes on club rides, where you might be struggling a bit, or seemingly having an off day, you think to yourself.....am I really having an off day or are we pushing on a bit?! Looking down and seeing an average of 300W+, you can be a bit relieved that it's not just you!

But for riding on your own, it's the most useful tool for pacing, and recovery rides. For me anyway.

Great benefit then...
No excuse for slow automated systems in this day and age!

Welcome! :D

Yup! The ole' *WTF this feels harder than it should* feeling! :D

Some cross headwinds yesterday really felt like killing my speed with the chariot - felt far slower than it should've yet the power levels where good (for me, paced & towing). Speed and averages only slightly down on previous day with no winds.

I'm investigating cycling into work - the sticky point is we don't have any showers at the office. Do any of the bike commuters here have the same problem? If so, what do you do?

Ride in would be 28km, using a couple of B-roads and country lanes, so around 1:15 at a steady pace with a small hill early on - profile:

There's a small independent gym on the same business park as the office but they don't have showers yet (waiting for their landlord to agree on the pipes) - they should have them by September / October. Costs £18/month from memory. A nearby hotel has a small gym and pool (not got prices yet), plus the council leisure centre in town (possible issue with bike security there). The council gym is £36 / month for a standard membership or £4.70 per visit.

Driving is a 35 mile round trip, car probably averages 45mpg, so say around £6 to £7 a day on car costs. Being able to cycle in twice a week would save money, though I could imagine I'd end up buying a commuter bike  :D

That sounds like the best option. A gym based in a business park must be losing at least 30% of their custom from having no showers - i'm sure it'll be a priority for them to get that sorted. If it's an independent gym there might also be some haggle room on the monthly cost if you're planning on only using the showers and not actually going into the gym?

I think they've been open a couple of years. I popped in at lunch and was up-front about primarily wanting showers. The guy who runs was fine with that and suggested he could help with a little programme around stability, stretching etc. That wouldn't be a bad idea - my flexibility isn't that good. Also looked like I could take a bike inside so wins on security as well.

@#Chri5# - ha, very weird that as my work commute is 28KM as well with a nice climb at the start so very similar. 285m of climbing on the shortest route I take in and I often go a hilly way home which gets me 360m and 35KM to home.

You'll definitely need a shower every day you do it especially with UK changeable weather. I am very lucky at my work there is many showers to choose from in different parts of the plant but I am also a member of the council gym right across the road which also does have showers.

I am doing it all week just now and like you my drive commute would be 30 miles round trip and my car does about 25MPG.... so I have saved HEAPS of money recently.

Get the showering sorted and it'll 100% be worth it and you won't regret. It'll be 2 hours of riding for you per day and you will save lots of pennies. You'll be doing 4-5 days in no time although might be a bit more drama with the winter fast approaching!
