basically when i get my next car which is likely to be a clio valver / 2.0 nova / 2.0 corsa (and suspension setup properly) i want to visit them.

the way i view it is take the windey way up there and the motorway on the way back....

so which route is the best please ? thanks.

Haven't got a map with me at the mo, so no road numbers. Grab the M4 then A470 towards the brecon beacons. Follow to builth wells then when you get to Llanidloes head towardsl llyn clywedog. From there you could ehead towards betws y coed and the evo triangle, over the Denbigh moors abd then A55 to Rhyl!

Try this one:

M4
Follow A470 to Llanidloes
Head towards Staylittle and then rejoin A470 at Llanbrynmair
Follow A470 to trawsfynydd
Turn right on A4212 towards Bala
At Bala take A494 towards the A5
Turn left on to A5
Turn right on to A543
Either follow A544 or A548 to A55

Enjoy!

Take care on the brecon beacons lots of mobile cameras about. Also watch the long straight in Trawsfynydd.

Id either do it early in the morning or late at night. There are limited overtaking places if you get stuck behind something.

Leave the M4 two junctions later to go from Llantrisant to pontypridd before rejoining the a470. Later leave the a470 to go via aberdare and penderyn to later rejoin the a470. You will pass through nice roads in the brecon beacons national park that way with one waterfall near penderyn.
Its quiet once you leave the main part of aberdare all the way till you meet the a470 next to the reservoir. Lots of good views and opportunties to stop off for lunch. I used to pass that way and often saw birds of prey, etc. Watch for the sheep though :)

If you dont want to pass through Aberdare, turn off at Merthyr on the heads of the valleys road towards hirwaun.

In fact the A465 or A48 are less mundane then a motorway if you are coming from the East. The A48 lets you avoid the toll too, a good excuse for a less direct route :)

i came in via the M50 on my trip... Ross on the Rye was quiet nice. I would make a Google route of your edited version, but for some reason its now cutting the main roads and going via grey roads!
