Well, My cover has just expired with greenflag and was wondering if its worth changing to another company. All I want is breakdown assistance and recovery to my home address in the event of either the car cannot be fixed at the roadside or has been in an accident rendering it un-drivable.
Would also be better if it covers any car.

I (my girlfriend) has an AA policy which covers us both in any car for the second option ie, come and try and fix it, if not tow it to your destination/home.
[edit] A price might be handy, I think £90 ish

Never use the AA!

I waited over 6 hours for them to recover me once, they also owed me a refund that took 3 months and a lot of phonecalls to get.

In the end the bloke that turned up to recover me told us he had only been contacted by the AA 40 minutes earlier and I was better off going with green flag.

I'm with the AA, called them out twice for roadside assistance and they came within about 30 minutes, guy was helpful too (first time looked at my engine and asked where I wanted a lift to lol (scrapped the car the next day :p ))

I'm with the RAC. Been with them since October last year and only had to call them out once when I broke the gearbox on my old car.

Arrived in under 45 minutes and gave me a tow home.

Excellent service :)

I've always used RAC, two call outs and good quick service both times.
The second time the van was with me, no lie, 3 mins after my call... but that was mostly luck because he was parked around the corner.

Greenflag are cheaper, atleast they were in the quote i got, but i don't know what the service is like.

Never had an issue with the RAC, great service.

Ditto. Both times I've had to call them out (over really stupid things that I couldn't fix myself) they've been there in 10 minutes or so.

I also got 25% off and free additional driver cover through work, which helps immensely :)

Currently with the RAC but have never used them, only been with them for a month, we (me and my GF) took up the offer at the motor show of buy one, get one free, so as we didnt have any cover it seemed too good to miss!

I'm with the AA, and on 3 occasions they've replaced parts for me when I've been able to buy them before they arrived (one clutch cable, two fan belts) - I just happened to have them in my boot m'lud ;)

the AA, its the g/fs policy and covers her in any car she is in and takes her home if its needed.

I got her to call them out when i had my accident, i think it took them about 60-80 mins to get to us which isnt really that bad. We had constant text messages telling us how far away the driver was which is good as you dont think you have been forgotten about.

The driver knew that the g/f wasnt actually with me when i had the accident but told us that as long as we said she was then he couldnt argue ;) Really nice guy and very helpful!

The AA took 5.5hrs to get a flatbed to me when my Elise has HGF. Conversely they turned up within 20mins when I locked my keys in the Corsa at a wedding.

If you tell them you have a kid with you, they'll be quicker, supposedly.

Im with the RAC and my family have been with them for years now, never had a problem, had a couple of call outs for various reasons where they have always been quick, plesant and solved the problem first time.

Does anyone know if the RAC email you a temporary membership number like the AA do when you join online? The website doesn't seem to say; it just says 'roadside assistance is available immediately' in the T&Cs.

I would imagine they do, I know when I signed up over the phone they gave me the number straight away.

Im with Greenflag, get free homestart with it and their quoting system is excellent.
