Robert Jordan - Very Ill

Indeed - it's been going on for a long time. Thought it would already have been posted here.

He is winning the battle at the moment, though if you know anyone that is ill I would highly recommend reading his blog. It really is inspiring to see his spirit and how his familly has pulled around him. The goals he has set for himself etc.

I started reading The Wheel Of Time when the first novel was released way back in 1990. That's 16 years ago! I certainly hope Robert pulls through and (if he's in good enough shape) finds the time/strength to finish the series.

The first 4 books were absolutely superb and amongst some of the best high fantasy written for many years. I reckon the series fumbled a little as the series progressed with far too many plot lines and too much emphasis on character development rather than just getting on with the task of telling the story. It's been getting better recently; lets hope Robert Jordan gets well and can finish the series in a way befitting it's orignal scope.

It has a few times :)

Cheers ;)

Though it's worthy of a repost. He puts an update on his blog once a month or so, and it's a fascinating and truly thought provoking read.

[edit] and for those that don't click the link... one of the best pieces of advice... ever.
I’m back a little sooner than usual this time, because I realized that I left off something very important when I was advising some guys dealing with illness. Maybe the most important thing of all. Laugh. Make her laugh. Make him laugh. Make yourself laugh. Keeping your spirits up has a really great effect, believe me. There are lots of situations where it’s hard to find something to laugh at, but in most situations where you can grumble, you can find a laugh in there if you look at it a little askew. And you know something? Making her laugh is almost as good as laughing yourself. In fact, if you make her laugh, soon enough you’ll find that you’re laughing along with her. There is all sorts of stuff that you can laugh your way through when trying to wade it just doesn’t work. Remember, nobody is asking you to laugh at everything. Nobody is asking you to stop grumbling. But the more you laugh, the less you’ll grumble, and the better you’ll feel. The better you’ll BE. I mean better in the sense that your doctors will notice. It works. I know. It works.

Hope it all ends up well. Hes a great author.

Loved his books... up to a point. Got up to book 8 (or 9, can't remember) of the Wheel of Time series, he just seemed to go on and on with repetative dialogues, it felt like he was just stringing the books out as much as he possibly could to make more books, therefore more money. How did the books after that worked out? Might go buy them as I have nothing to read right now. :o
