Hi All,

Calling all you Rockband and Guitar Hero players who know there stuff.

I bought the Guitar Hero World Tour kit some time ago and have not been on it for ages as I thought the download content was pants.

From memory, a friend also had Rockband 2 and the songs that could be downloaded were fantastic.

Q. Does that sound about right, is Rockband allot better for content that Guitar Hero?

So with Xmas approaching I was thinking of getting Rockband but when I looked into it more I see that there is now a Rockband 3.

Q. Does Rockband 3 allow you to download all the same songs that were found in RB1 & 2 also?

Q. I have Guitar Hero World Tour on PS3. Do i need to go and buy all new instruments or are any of them compatible?

Q. If I have to buy new, were is the best place to buy a couple of guitars or the kit?

Thanks all

wedmonds

Obviously this is all relative, but yes, i rate Rock Band as far superior to the recent Guitar Hero games (Guitar Hero 2 withstanding)

Iirc, yes.

Again iirc all of the guitar hero world tour peripherals work with Rock Band

God knows, way too expensive for my wallet

For content (inc. DLC which is what I think your after) then Rock Band spanks pretty much any game. Ever. Including all discs and DLC your looking at over 2000 songs available*

All Rock Band DLC is compatible with Rock Band 3. However if you only go as far as Rock Band 2 you can only have the DLC upto and including the 19th Oct 2010.

Your instruments should be fine but you might see some odd charting with the drums which it will chop down to 4 lanes + bass part (orange cymbal will be unused).

As for instruments - if you know and could tell me that'd be great :p

What you need is:

RB3 (with keyboard)
Cheap copy of RB2 for export
Cheap copy of Lego Rock Band for export
Rental of RB1 for export

Lots and lots of money :p

*the 2000 tracks is approx. and the 360 has more than the Wii/PS3 due to Rock Band Network (RBN, user created content) is tied in with Microsoft's XNA. Songs from RBN are coming out on PS3/Wii weekly but not at quite the rate as the 360...

Blimey... Its a wonder people actually bother with it.
So If I bought RB3 I could not access all the songs online?
Why would i need RB2 and RB1 etc? Is it essential buying?

What Psy has said is get your hands on the old copies to IMPORT songs. What this does is download songs from the disk of older versions of RB to your consoles hard drive, allowing them for use with other versions of rock band. If you do what he says you'll have access to all of the DISK songs from RB1,2,3 and Lego. You will have access to the downloadable songs no matter what you decide to do, but by getting the older games you end up with the most songs for the least investment.

As for DLC, Psy is saying Rockband 3 has access to everything, but rockband 2 can only download songs UP TO October. I assume this is due to the new instruments added and also to boost sales of RB3. If you decide to only get RB3 (something i'd advise against - the logical thing is to get the older games too and import the tracks) you'll have access to all downloadable songs.

Just to clarify RB3 can download every song available too.

The file format or something changed (adding in keyboards & pro-guitar charts etc).

PS3/Wii have marginally less songs due to the way RBN is setup. You can still get all disc songs though.
